Again, I wouldn't get too excited. There are apparently some substantial hurdles he would have to climb.

Wrongly, in my opinion, he's being perceived in an unfavorable light because of his ties to Calipari.

Where did you hear that from? Or is it just opinion?

Memphis was a better job, until they signed with the Big East. (There is a reason Calipari was vehemently against them switching conferences during the first Big East - CUSA grab)

Pastner would be smart to get out, he's a dead man walking at Memphis anyway, similar to TJ at LSU.

Unfortunately, not an opinion.

ETA: I'll add that he has some support within the AD, but there seems to me to be a fundamental misunderstanding of how to successfully recruit and build a basketball program nowadays.

Yeah, other than the shitty recruiting and losing, they are very similar.

And let's not act like today's Big East is even remotely similar to the old Big East.

Ehh, Pastner has never beaten a top 25 team. Ever. Think about that. Never beaten a top 25 team. That's with a roster that regularly starts multiple McDonalds All Americans. (most of whom came from the city, and grew up Tiger Fans) FWIW those guys aren't switching to LSU because Pastner is there. Even his big recruit this year Shaw Goodwin, though from Atlanta, played for the Memphis YMCA AAU team.

Every Memphis fan I know is already sick of him. He's relied on nothing more than playing in a terrible conference to reach the tournament.

And the similiar to TJ part, refers to the fact that he probably would be fired within the next two years anyway.

He just hasn't been impressive. If his seat wasn't hot, he wouldn't be looking.

If thats your best argument, then I guess we better go try and get Trent back, I mean we did beat Marquette last year.

I know all about him and I've followed him since he was at Arizona. I know about his record and his detractors, but thanks for coming over here to educate us.

There is no doubt he's had a learning curve. Most coaches his age are working through the tough times and learning on the job at schools like Tennessee Tech. He was thrust into that position early and is learning and improving. He probably wasn't ready.

He's already got the recruiting part down, which is the difficult part. The coaching and management will come. He will get better and Memphis will regret it if he gets better somewhere else.

Pastner's 75 wins are the most by a Memphis coach over his first three seasons.

Sounds good to me.
