So does that also apply to the "school of choice" programs in public schools? Where students can elect to apply to the school that is the "business academy" like Acadiana High in Lafayette and are eligible to play football regardless of the district they actually live in. Or public magnet schools or charter schools like Madison Prep, which is technically a public school?
This is true, although the Majority/Minority transfer rule has more to do with it. Acadiana has been getting kids from other Lafayette school districts for several years, which is why they are so successful. Neville is doing the same thing in Monroe.

So he's a coach with championships (or former championships) on his resume AND a great recruiter?
College coaches will be beating down his door.

That sucks arse. Why are they picking on lil old Southern Lab?? Go and pick on the Evangel's, Quachita Christians, Curtis' and so on.

It actually started with Katrina transfers but has morphed since then with the business academy. I'm an Acadiana alum but we didn't have these kinds of teams back in the late 70's.

There is a thread on this elsewhere on this site that provides greater details. It appears that Randall set up his best friend (who was fired yesterday as the 1st year Head Coach/AD at Capital Academy here in BR) in a position to direct a TAF-like booster group for Southern Lab.
He was charged with "boosting enrollment," and also oversaw the tuition assistance programs where donations from the alumni, public and SU itself-who kicks cash in to subsidize tuition for needy Southern Lab students-filtered to kids on scholarship.
The word is a lot of the cash-including funds disbursed by SU itself-never made its way towards paying tuition for the needy kids (many of whom were on the football team). The problem came when Southern Lab tried to balance the books at the Lab School. It got worse when SU tried to confirm that the funds it disbursed for the same reason were actually spent on that when they performed a routine audit as required by law.

I met him last year. He said he is not often in touch with Saban, but talks with Jimbo weekly during the season.

LSU should hire him to shadow staff.
Yeah, let's hire a guy who couldn't manage to not get caught breaking the rules at the high school level ...I'm sure that would go well at a football giant like LSU.

Recruiting still goes on in High School. Last school I remember doing it was West Monroe getting Cam Robinson from Ouachita High SchooL for his senior year.

"I had no idea they couldn't recruit. It was decades ago, but I had Curtis coaches in my living room trying to convince my parents to let me go there"
Same thing happened to my family.
