They did play great defense. But at least some of Pinson’s 3s were wide open and he just clanked them.

your numbers would increase also too if you had doubled your average minutes played per game. That doesn't translate him to being a good guard.

Yea but he has been more efficient while playing more minutes. Also he single handedly won us a couple of games while Pinson was out. His athleticism is ridiculous and he has cut down on the turnovers. I’m glad we have him.

When he plays under control he is a good player. When he's forced to be the "point" he seems to get out of control.
He's best coming off the bench and being the energy guy.
I was hard on him earlier, but I do see his improvement.

This team lacks guards. Pinson is still gimpy and Murray seems injured as well as he hasn't shot well. Gaines is all we got left.

Gaines is the best defender we have on the team and no matter what anybody says that dude plays with heart for the entire game. Nobody else gets to say that

They left Pinson wide open on purpose. He has an odd form in shooting threes, nothing smooth about it. It shows.

Don't disagree....he will be even better once he can learn to play more in control on both ends.

You left out efficiency too and more minutes rarely equals that type of jump. So you responded to fact with precisely nothing.

Right, more minutes would lead to less efficiency if he wasn’t vastly improved. Love Gaines

I will say though that it is frustrating af that we have 2 guards(Pinson and Gaines), that basically can’t shoot at all. But frick, at this point I would rather Gaines shoot a 3 than Pinson. Gaines can at least hit wide open ones.

He’s streaky as hell, and my least favorite player. But he’s young, and has improved throughout the season. He has great potential. At times he has been very good. When he shows just how good he can be, then follows with a boneheaded play, it’s frustrating for sure.

Right, it couldn’t be that he is a super athlete and trying to develop his skills like he obviously has, it’s that “he thinks he’s better than he is.”

It is especially since Pinson is traditionally a decent 3 point shooter, 33% at Mizzu. He’s at 15% since conference started this season so he’s been a real disappointment there. Gaines has actually improved, 17% last year, under 24% in non conf this season to 31% in conference so at least his trajectory is up though not nearly consistent enough.

You should have listened to me about Pinson instead of telling me I’m stupid

Thanks for the numbers. Gaines is getting better, hope he can improve that even more next year. Idc what anyone says, dude is a scorer, he showed it when he ran point, someone can look it up but I remember him averaging like 16 a game during that time.

Bruh you said he couldn’t play with the ball in his hands, we agreed he was better as a catch and shoot player when shooting from the perimeter.

Gaines is probably in the top handful of defensive guards in the country. His athleticism and instincts on that end of the floor are elite and it's not debatable. He's got work to do on offense still, but he's made a good jump on the end already. If he can learn to change speeds and play under control more often, he's going to be a great great player for us his junior and perhaps senior year.
