Medical malpractice.

The attorney is arguing that because this tumor is present in children, the surgery should have been completed by a pediatric neurosurgeon.
1) that’s on the family and doctor/hospital I would think
2) I doubt that it’s Greg himself suing .. his name is on it but I’d guess his family actually brought the suit?
3) What if anything kept him from going to a doctor after the trainer? Did he tell his parents he wasn’t feeling well? Did they say “hey .. go get checked out elsewhere”
I have no idea .. and I hate every bit of this for him. My dad had two brain surgeries and signing that consent was a feat in itself. All surgeries come with risks and when those risks actually happen it sucks for the patient.

Nothing. His condition was not football related in any way. It’s ridiculous

Fair, but even so, if you don’t practice you can lose your spot, right? I mean this is nothing out of the ordinary for typical coaching. This is an unfortunate situation, and his family is doing what they can to set him up for the rest of his life, but there is no way Kelly is going to be fired for this.
All of this, unless there is something that never came out that they can prove this will amount to nothing. But damn this couldn't come at worst time and will still make LSU and Kelly look bad no matter what the outcome is. Because you know this will be used against LSU in recruiting

I was very surprised that he didn't have the surgery at MD Anderson or another highly regarded cancer center with neurosurgeons exclusively specializing in brain tumors.
If somebody is opening my skull and cutting something out of my brain, I’m not getting this done in Baton Rouge. I’m going to the best damn doctor in the world that I can afford. If the trainers pushed him to see a spinal specialist in Baton Rouge instead of a top ranked brain surgeon, that is the only negligence I can see.

LSU told him he’s was free to miss practice. And just like if any other player missed for any other reason, he would run the risk of the person replacing him in practice also replacing him in games.
Let’s be real. That’s emotional manipulation. BK knew damn well no one was good enough to replace Greg. Our safety play last year was a crime

Such anger from him
True character comes out when mad
His family lost their gravy train
Now they sue.

I was being facetious. But let’s be real. No one was taking his spot

Not upset at the lawsuit. The family and him have a long road of care ahead of them. This likely is the only avenue they have to receive that funding.
I hate the attitude of "insurance will cover it", but that's likely where this lands.
Capital projects or departmental funding isn't going to be cut because or Greg Brooks.

I know one former tiger that will make this miserable for LSU.

spinal specialist
Go read his bio all the way to the end. Spine is not his only experience.
I would think that every brain tumor and surgery is unique. Neuromedical Center has well respected doctors.
They say LSU rushed GB to Dr. Gaynor yet they are complaining that 39 days without a neuro appointment is too slow.
It's a damned if they do and damned if they don't situation.

Horrible situation all around for this kid to go through, but he wouldn’t have had half the care if he was a regular joe blow student. Nobody would care about that kid except for the immediate friends/family. I do understand the lawsuit from the family perspective as it looks like his future medical care will be astronomical. Just sucks all around.

case thrown out as premature
Couldn't medical defendants file motions to dismiss if Med Review Panel protocol isn't followed? Thought the MRP delayed the statute of limitations for filing in District Court.
What I don't understand is St. Jude's involvement. What/how did they treat GB? Didn't he go to St. Jude's before Neuromedical Center/OLOL/Dr. G?
There is a Memphis attorney that will make an appearance as one of GB's attorneys.

Dang. Tricky one. Suing the neurosurgeon as makes this seem less valid. Less than half of these types procedures work at all.
That said, I hope LSU settles for a few million bucks.

another opportunity to villainize lsu

They treated symptoms in order of most likely causes. Just like pretty much every other doctor would have done. LSU told him he’s was free to miss practice. It’s just a family that had a tragedy and is looking for someone to hold accountable. With it being something that had major news, they probably had lawyers reaching out to them to tell them they can make a case around it. The shitty thing is that they are going after LSU, after everyone seemingly rallied behind them emotionally and financially.
