Stud's OLs were always just wildly inconsistent, would show flashes of dominance and then there were times where they looked they lacked any kind of physicality. I'm also not sure he ever went over pass blocking.

Don't even get me started on that lazy frick's recruiting efforts down the stretch. Should have been removed as soon as the season ended, we may have had a shot with Robinson had Grimes been given a decent amount of time

Yep - embarrassing. Apart from a TO, one would be hard-pressed to find a worse series.

For years, I always felt like Va Tech was a team that played the game (to borrow a quote from Mike Gottfried) with a mean streak. Beamer's one of my favorite coaches, and I think the culture of Va Tech football is one that generally associated w/toughness (sans an LSU whipping they took a few years ago lol).

He coached there for 1 season. He was at auburn longer and was replaced by another grimes when they got rid of chizik.

If the O-Line is that good then the quarterback will only be needed to hand the ball off to Fournette.

People sometimes freak out when assistants are replaced but change can be good. Attitudes and approach can make a hugh difference.
I loved Cholly Mac but that was a knock on him. He assistants that stayed with him for years. Contrast that to the Bear. He developed assistants to become head coaches...and look at how many future head coaches went through his staff...Cholly Mac included.

Should it be mentioned that many (disproportionate number?) of Bear's protégés were flakes at best - DuBose, Dye, Sherrill, Ford (debatable), Pell, Hallman . . . ?
