A lot of truth in this. If they are willing to replace Miles they better check their 'feelers' closely and make sure they have a target in mind and they are ready and able to step up to the plate. And a proven commodity at that.
I could agree with this if we were trying to replace a NC caliber coach but lets be honest, we arent replacing a regime that wins NC's or even SEC's

There could be family dynamics going on. His children are getting older and for all intents and purposes he and his wife are now empty nesters and just at or near retirement age. He just lost his dear Mother last year. He has made plenty of money. If there is a underlying health issue then all adds up. Miles could retire right now and leave behind a rich legacy at LSU.

I have never been the biggest Miles supporter. However, unless LSU KNOWS it has a a proven championship HC waiting in the wings, any talk of firing him at the end of the year is absolutely absurd. What is LSU going to do? Fire him and just HOPE they can land a big time coach? Texas had all the money in the world to go along with historical prestige and a ridiculously fertile recruiting base. They had to settle for a coach that was WAY down the potential hire list. Contrary to what many fans might think, big time coaches aren't just biding their time until LSU calls
Texas is also the perfect example of what can happen if you wait for the bottom to completely fall out.
Big hires are indeed very risky, but should we accept this mediocrity just because someone else could be worse?

Very sensible post. Anyone have the delusional thought that we hire a new coach now that is worth a shite , who would even come given how we will have treated Les, will make a big enough difference in less than one friggen year to win an NC? And that has gotten to be the only measurement acceptable to some.

Geez we gotta play them again?

Can't wait for when we have the new coach, I'm going to expect a title every year like every one does now and then watch the usual suspects change their tune "you have to give the new coach time!"

Beefense - we don't make astute decisions then yes the next guy will have it very tough! If it is time to replace a HC its time. But we best have a strong plan that is doable!!!

was this on 104.5?

Miles isn't going anywhere.
When LSU is playing A&M on Thanksgiving Day 2020, he'll be there...eating grass.

You will have some doing that but the SFP's of tiger droppings have been doing this for all 11 years of Miles Tenure so please don't act like this isn't the case.

I would be unbelievably shocked if Les was bought out this year.
I think his contract has too much money left on it to remove him now. I understand a coach not wanting a 1-2 year deal, especially at a college program where it takes several years just to recruit a guy that eventually signs. I don't understand extended coaches 4+ years when they have 2 years left on a contract that was originally 4-5 years. That type of contract should never exist at a place like LSU. Whats sad, is that he signed that after a very very ho-hum year. I could excuse Alleva if it was after a really good year....but it wasn't at all.

Before the approval of Miles’ contract, the board discussed a $3 million mid-year budget cut passed down by the state in December. Since Gov. Bobby Jindal took office, the state’s higher education has been cut by $625 million, according to a Board of Regents presentation by Purcell.
"LSU is known nationally as a football team, not as an institution of higher learning,"Mike Russo, LSU associate librarian said Friday during the public comment section. "The action you’re going to take today by raising the compensation of the football coach to further astronomical levels while simultaneously remaining mute on the subject of faculty compensation will only serve to solidify that caricature in the public’s mind."
Russo, who has been vocal during the last few board meetings, said he's not against Miles' new contract.
"If it sounds like I’m suggesting you deny the coach’s raise, I’m not," he said. I am suggesting that it is past time for you to face and to deal with a problem which undermining the university. A 15 percent raise for the faculty would be a start."
quote:
According to a NOLA.com report, Miles' buyout terms in the proposed deal are in LSU’s favor. If Miles is terminated without cause in any of the first three years of the contract, he receives $15 million; $12.9 million in years four or five; $8.6 million in year six; and in year seven, $4.3 million.

Are you kidding? He is among the highest paid coaches in college football, LSU provided him the best access to one of the most fertile recruiting territories in the USA that led to a national championship, a greatly devoted fanbase and retained him as coach for 11 years......
What part of that screams "NO NO NO, HORRIBLE SITUATION, STAY AWAY!!!" ?

These types of contracts exist at every program worth their salt, why would LSU be any different?

IMO, 1/9 really decimated Miles as a coach. God knows it still makes the blood boil of all of us, but I think for Miles, it really did something to him...Alabama got in his head, and has been in it since.
Let's compare Miles' stats at LSU from November through post-season both before and after 1/9. I included 1/9 in the 2012-Present category, bc that's what did him in.
2005-2011: 29-9 = .763 win percentage
2012 - Present: 7-9 = .438 win percentage
Let's face it, Miles can say there is no such thing as Bama hangover, but the statistics indicate otherwise. Since going on the 5 game losing streak to Bama, Miles has been absolutely awful to end each season. So to say, "if Miles loses this team..." He already has. If LSU plays the way we did against OM, A&M, and our bowl opponent as we did Arky -- I think we lose all 3.
