re: Hard to get excited about any player coming when they're only there for the money, not LSU

Was: FOREVER LSU!
Now: TONIGHT LSU!
Now: TONIGHT LSU!

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just having a hard time cheering for LSU when you know a majority of the players couldn't care less about LSU and are just using LSU for a paycheck.
Do you want good players or do you want the best players?

I want players that want to be at LSU and are proud to wear the jersey. Recently, I saw a clip of Tyrann Mathieu talking about his time at LSU and what an honor it was to wear that jersey and play in front of a sold out Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.
That's the type of player I want playing for LSU.

Tyrann was committed to Tennessee for a minute.
Get them here and let them have success and then when they leave the love LSU

This is the way now. Get on or get off. Crying ain't buying.
All this still holds true!

As a young child growing up in south Louisiana, LSU was embedded into me at a young age and those three letters meant something. I can still recall going to games in Tiger Stadium and being a part of the most passionate fanbase in CFB or having family get togethers to fellowship and watch the LSU game.
All this still holds true!

On Saturday night in Death Valley it still says LSU on the jerseys don't it?
That's all that fricking matters. LSU!!
And we want them to be better than the rest.

And then you have fellas like my friend who had an NFL career ripped from him because of an injury he sustained in college. At least he and his family could have had some compensation while he was playing and risking his body.

Like the REC did at Bama for many years?

You only saw that clip because he was one of the best players. They’re not showing retrospectives on 7-5 teams

First to act like what was happening back then and now is the same is a false equivalency and disingenuous. Second, I have no issue with NIL. If a player can sell jerseys or autographs or get paid for commercials go for it. But having no structure and a complete Wild West coupled with the unlimited portal just makes it completely ridiculous every year. It’s worse than the NFL. Those guys have contracts. This is basically renegotiating with your current roster every single season.
And I don’t blame the players. I blame the lack of leadership in the sport
Exactly this. At least in the NFL you can get to know a player.
I wonder how many of these one and done transfers will come back and visit LSU like players in the past have.

College football has lost its greatness. Be thankful for that 2019 team.

Great point. 2019 will never be duplicated or even come close.
IMO, if all you care about is winning at any cost, you're not a true LSU fan. Do we really want players that don't care about LSU because that also means they don't care about you the fan, the traditions and the history of LSU!
So the next time LSU loses a game or several games and you see the players laughing and high fiving each other as they walk off the field, just remember that's what you wanted. They don't care if LSU wins or loses, because they're getting paid, regardless!

Will you be excited for that player if we are playing for a championship?

the reason why the NFL is not near as popular than college football is EXACTLY what is happening to college football!
When the game becomes based on contracts, finances and legal issues.....it is a business and no longer a sport.
College is a time of learning, exploring, and FUN....the business/money comes after college. And I believe that most will agree that this is correct.

I do agree the college system is really flawed, but most don't cheer for the team because of the player, they cheer for the player because of the team. If LSU were to sign kids only who loved LSU as much as we do, 7-6 would be a good season. Talent wins, and talent will chase money, as they always have. As Coach O said in a recent interview, the only difference now is the guy with the cash walks through the front door, instead of the back.
Posted on 1/14/26 at 5:54 pm to homemadeshine
Same way I feel. They no longer play for their school or State but for their back pockets.

I disagree… think about the amount of money these players making… it proves the NCAA and universities should have been came up with a way to pay the players… CFB makes billions… who more deserving to get paid from CFB than the actual players

So you don't care who plays for LSU, if they can get LSU to a championship game or win a NC?
You are definitely not a true LSU fan, because if you were, you would only want players that love LSU and take great pride in wearing the purple and gold.
Go ahead and cheer for those players but understand they don't care about LSU or its fans - and that includes YOU!

Bingo! I stopped watching the NFL about 10 years ago exactly for this reason and I'm proud to say I haven't missed it one bit.
