Right. There is no way some one can come from a junior college and rise to prominence in one year. That has never happened
I think that poster was talking more about the style of offense than about a JUCO player not being able to come in and play well.

Had this poster on my wall growing up.

I'll ask, why go after a kid like Mett and Gunner if you only need a flynn or a mauck?
Because with those guys we only average playing in a championship game every 4 years, with Mett and Kiel, hopefully it will be every year.

Good point!
Only thing is we do not run that type of "O"...still I see better things from the QB spot for awhile!

ETA: was there a Heisman then?
Yes. 1947 was the year after Blanchard and Davis won back-to-back for Army, in '45 and '46. Tittle is not listed in the voting, but I'm sure he doesn't feel too badly about it.

John Lujack is still alive, I think. When you have 2 players after whom prestigious national awards named after #3 and #7 (Doak Walker and Chuck Bednarik), consider that a pretty good year.

There is zero chance Mett will be in the Heisman discussion next year.
That is a retarded statement. I am not saying he will win it, but to say he has no chance to be in the discussion is stupid. JJ was discussed before the year for God's sake. I also can guarantee that no on called TM7 and Montee Ball being invited to NYC this season.

Bert Jones for one. Could be more.
Finished 4th in 1972. Alexander finished 9th in '77 and 5th in '78. Dorsey finished 9th in 2007. Mathieu finished 5th in 2011.
Before Jones in '72, Stovall finished 2nd (closest up to that time) in '61, Cannon finished 3rd in '58 and 1st in '59.
SO, using being listed on the Heisman voting results as a "Heisman" contender, Jones is the only QB prospect. There was some noise for Hodson, but his senior year we had a terrible team.

You don't go after kid to fit a pre-established plan for your offense. You get recruits who are the best at their positions and then design your offense around the skills of the people you have.
Have seen a few teams where some kid was hailed as the Second Coming and the coach sold out the whole offensive scheme to "feature" that kid--it never works out.

You contradicted yourself. On one hand, you say don't have a pre-established plan. Just get the best players and design around them. Then you say designing around the best player doesn't work.

We don't currently run a style of offense that promotes a QB being the bright spot offensively. That is in big part due to the risk associated with passing the ball a lot with our QB's. If LSU had a QB like barkley or luck I guarantee we would pass more regularly.

We could have one in the rb position if we would let one of them be the go to rb, like TR. Ford/Hilliard could be if they could run the ball 25-30 times a game IMO.

Y.A. Tittle was never in the running for the Heisman, he came along at a time when there were some great QB's across the nation.
A large percentage of Y.A. stats comes form one game each year, that being the Tulane game.
Y.A. played hurt his Sr. year at LSU on the unlucky 47 team.
That is the same year Y.A. had the game winning play vs Ole Miss, but his belt was loose and his pants dropped and he was tackled from behind; which allowed Ole Miss to hold out for the win.
Ole Miss say that have the game film of the 1947 game, and will be putting it to dvd sometime soon.

I think JJ was being considered, but when the Leeophiles got wind of it they threw a hissy fit so loud the voters decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

"Now, I am not saying it will become a "throw it 70%" offense. But, to assume that what we saw is what we WILL see is incorrect."
+1 on this. Miles always wants to have a good running game, but we slung it around plenty when Russell and Flynn were QB'ing the Tigers. As more talented passers mature under center, I expect to see a more balanced attack.

Miles would rather pass, pass, run, pass, run, run, but with the qbs we have it is run, run, pass, run, pass

this is the les miles gameplan. great defense and special teams, win with the running game in the second half. hard to argue with the results the last 2 years. (or any of the 7 for that matter)
this is true....but if Mett shows, on field, that he has mastery of the system and can protect the ball the gameplan will evolve. Miles and staff know that we will probably have to showcase a more prolific air attack to attract the next wave of Bowe's, Byrd's, Randall's, Landry's and OBJ's.
