Brad Smalling was abused by Greg Geathers in the first half when Brandon Winey refused to dress for the game. Geathers had three tackles for loss and one sack in the first half. Booty was sacked like 3 times and pressured on virtually every pass play. In the second half when Davey came into the game, so did Winey. Geathers did nothing in the second half, and Davey had all day to throw. During the first half LSU ran 8 plays that lost yardage. In the second half LSU did not run a single play that resulted in lost yardage.
Winey is one of my least favorite LSU players for his actions that night. But that game demonstrated the importance of offensive line play better than any other I've seen. Unfortunately, most fans focused on the QB play rather than the line play.

Pretty sure that LSU wore purple in the Hall of Fame Bowl against Syracuse, and the Sugar Bowl a couple of years before that against Nebraska.

I can vouch this is true....was working for the team at that time. Winey didn't want to " hurt his draft status" by playing injured. He was a selfish kid. He and a group of others wanted Ro over Booty.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, would have said that 20 years ago. It was the exact opposite. People equated LSU's losing slump with wearing purple jerseys at home (without the option to wear white). Posted on 12/28/12 at 8:04 am to RealityTiger

LSU wore white in both of those bowl losses. They did wear purple in the 1983 Orange Bowl loss to Nebraska.

Correction...they wore white against Syracuse, and against Nebraska in 1987, but did wear purple in losses to Nebraska in the 1985 Sugar Bowl and the 1983 Orange Bowl.
