No school in the Ivy League gives football scholarships.

Is this true? Does Harvard have a policy of not giving free tuition for sports?

The Ivies don't award merit based scholarships--academic or athletic. They only give "need-based financial aid". I believe Harvard is also one of the universities that for which the financial aid is 100% grants (no loans).

Good on the kid.

I am happy for him. He's a great kid.

If you note, he got the job because the real starter tore his labrum.

So LSU had a 2nd stringer IVY LEAGUE QB as it's STARTER! I know it's because of RP's departure but it plAinly illustrates the Miles/Crowton inability to have QUALITY depth at QB. We're not in much better shape right now.

Harvard's hockey team is Div I and loaded with Canadiens that I bet are on athletic schollys.

Good Div. II and III players generally are just as skilled as the players in Div. I, they're just not as big. So I wouldn't worry quite that much.

If you don't believe that check out the number of such players currently on NFL rosters.

After the 2008 season, I'm sure QB Hatch thought that he would be back up to JJefferson which I believe was true. The only exception is that if he came in for JJefferson in the 2nd half of ala. game 2009 we would have won. He is very similar to LSU QB Jimmy Fields, very smart, very good runner and good passer who does not throw interceptions!

I liked Hatch. Mentally he had it (wish I could say that about our current QBs) but he didn't have the arm. Hope he does very well at Harvard!

Don't they figure your tuition based on your family income.

If your family makes under a certain amount you go to school for free.

Under an initiative Harvard introduced in 2007, families earning between $60,000 and $120,000 a year are asked to contribute between zero and 10 percent of their annual income, on a sliding scale. Those earning between $120,000–$180,000 pay 10 percent.

Harvard's annual tuition-including room and board-is $50,724. More than 60 percent of students receive aid, with need-based grants averaging about $40,000.

Not exactly. The article states that Hatch and last year's starter were in an open competition for the starting job when the other guy had his injury. Who's to say he wouldn't have won the job anyway?

Really??? Based on this statement, I'm assuming you have never said a bad word about JJ or JL.

How long has he been in college? I thought he was an upperclassman while he was here?

Quite a while. Didn't he go from BYU to mission to Harvard to LSU and now back to Harvard? At any rate, he certainly seems to redefine "journeyman" at the college level.

Never went to BYU, was going to go but then Crowton got fired. He went to Harvard for a year, then mission, then LSU, then back to Harvard.

Pretty much all ivy leagues don't give scholarships for sports. It's mostly academic that get scholarships plus legacies/politicians kids, etc

You wanna play, you pay
