I guess your right, just let him keep doing this until he decides it's time to go no matter how bad he is.

John Brady should not have been fired either.

He has been well paid with a great job, and is and has been a second rate announcer all along. We just settled for bad a long time ago.
The glaring thing I notice about 98% of the posts bashing Hawthorn is they're by a bunch of fricking noobs with pretty low post counts. Not that that means a whole helluva lot but y'all are probably the same morons that like black baseball jerseys, think our football uniform could use an "update," by all the shite with toonces on it and still think LSU football didn't exist before Nick Saban. Keep in mind, all you goofballs have the same opinion as REX. Good job.

I have no problem with Hawthorne. I can follow what he's saying with relative ease.

ok Dew , I'm not a frickin noob. Been a Tiger since 1970. Hawthorne is incompetent at play by play for ANY sport. Basketball is his worst due to speed of game. His voice is spectacular and sounds great when saying : Touchdown Tigers" .But he misses way too much in the PBP . Try listening to him, and watching the game live. You will think he's calling a different game.

I just do not like how he and Ford react to each other. Just not a good mesh. That has to change.

Hawthorne does manage to cause a little confusion with his calls, and it is probably time for him to retire. Sometimes he will actually call the same game that I am watching.
Let’s see: I have 503 posts and you have 5,264. I’ve been going to LSU games for 52 years and you are what – 15 years old? I would argue that my 52 years gives me a better perspective than your 5264 posts.
PS: spell check is a terrible thing to waste - “jersey's”?

Well basketball is tough game to call. He prolly makes his share of mistakes. But I feel he does a good job of relaying the flow and feel of the game. Used to listen to radio while watching t.v. but can't now becasue of the t.v. delay.

Hawthorne was great, and there is no way to measure what he has done for LSU Sports in his time here. BUT, it is time to pass the torch. He's not the skilled caller he once was.
I had to listen to the LSU/Ark game in 2007 - listening to his call was actually worse than the outcome.
Jim, Thanks for everything, but it's time to retire. Give someone else a chance to be a part of LSU Sports history.

Hawthorne is absolutely horrid at calling basketball. Thank God, I hopefully wont have to listen to him call a game again

You will one more time. The Auburn road game isn't on TV.

He's off and been off for the last 6 years... does anybody know who next in line?
Posted on 2/11/09 at 11:48 pm to Elleshoe
He is much better at baseball I find. Although seems to be an Arkansas fan for some reason, gets more excited by their success.

Who replaces him when he is sick or something?
