His negative calling of the games has got to have the AD throwing up. He said "if it goes into overtime, it's over for us".
On the Rant, they call that being "Objective"

I'm not really sure that's it's even worth listening to games with no video at this point. I can follow along better with espn gamecast that shows me the score and a brief description of what happened. Listening to Hawthorne leaves me trying to figure out what's happening more times than not. I usually just go by the crowds reaction instead of waiting the 2 minutes for Hawthorne to figure out what just happened.
My favorite that stuck on last night was in regulation when we were up by 3 with like 20 seconds left and Q.Thornton fouled someone at the top of the key, at least i think he was according to my interpretation of the broadcast, and Hawthorne says "I'm ok with that, they can't tie us now, that's good"
No it's not good, why are you fouling a big man at the top of the key with 20 seconds left sending him to the line for 2 shots? I can see if this was a "hack a storm" type strategy but it wasn't it was just a dumb foul. Maybe with 2 seconds left it's fine but not with 20.
The guy needs to hang it up, at least in basketball and baseball I think he's burnt himself out.

Yeah, I was thinking WTF when Hawthorne started analyzing that foul...He sounded like he was trying to make that a good foul, when in fact it was like you said, "a dumb foul".

Agreed. Been listening to Hawthorne for years and I have no problem with him. I was able to follow the game last night. Perhaps its the listeners who need to pay better attention.

Sorry, I don't believe that. I'm not bashing them b/c it serves no purpose, but both Hawthorne and Ford get so excited that they forget to tell us what is going on at times. Several times down the stretch they didn't give the time remaining. Family thought I was nuts yelling at a radio asking for time.
Those two together are not good.

I thought the call was terrible. We could not follow the game and crucial games. What I thought was the worst was when Hawthorne blamed the OT on Storm and the lane violation. For him to call out a LSU player, especially a freshman, is in very poor taste. I have sent my complaint to Joe Alleva this morning. That being said--

These people that love to rant on Hawthorne should try to get behind a mic and do 'play by play' on ANY sport! They couldn't even open a mic without a bottle of Mallox....

Following that logic, fans should not be critical of athletes because they can't do it any better?

I followed with no issues. Hawthorne is the best in the SEC. The bashers just don't know what they are talking about.

I listened to the game and had a GREAT time. I enjoyed the game, knew what was going on, celebrated the exciting victory.
Did they get some things wrong and have to correct themselves? Yes. So what?
It was a frenetic game and I was caught up with the emotion. That's what i need from the broadcast. I can't imagine that anyone was "lost" for more than a few seconds at any point in the game.

Hawthorne should stick baseball. It's slow enough that he doesn't get that confused.

I actually like Hawthorne. I dont have too much of a problem with him.

Exactly the problem. A good play by play man calls the action as he sees what happens. There is an inherent delay in what takes place and what is described by the announcer. Hawthorne gets so caught up in the emotion of the moment that he anticipates what will happen, blows the call, then muddies it up even more by stuttering through correcting himself. Excuseable in basketball when the action is so fast (although last night was painful). Inexcusable in baseball.
