I love how some fans think because one of our units is highly regarded, it means we are destined to beat Bama and roll into Atlanta.

Shelvin has yet to play big time college football and having to get used to playing at that level. As the other poster-William G just insinuated he will indeed struggle not only with his conditioning, but with his play against top level competition that isn't high school players that he's going up against anymore. Especially with that level of competition being SEC caliber players that he's going up against. He'll get better as time progresses on, but I don't expect much initially, early on, Alexander is a much better player at this stage that I'm looking for to have a break out season.

You realize he was a clearinghouse issue and not a medical red shirt, right? That means he is able yo do ALL football activities except dress for games. So this b.s. about conditioning and facing high level competition is bogus. He practiced all year against LSUs offense.

"bogus" you say?? Lmao I can tell right off that some of you know nothing about football, keep thinking like that. Practice is a long damn ways from playing in live action SEC football games, and the other poster makes a legit point about conditioning.

Well, I guess lucky for us he won't miss any live SEC games between now and September and the playing field will be level.

Eta: And I agree completely about people assuming that newcomers to the program are just gonna automatically be All-SEC. The potential is there, sure, but we won't know until the season starts. There so many examples of good practice players not doing in games.

Absolutely right about some of these "studs" moving to OLINE. Joe Barksdale & Will Blackwell come to mind when you mentioned Rosenthal and Hines. Both were big dline recruits that made the transition to fill team needs on the oline. Barksdale is still playing in the NFL and Blackwell ended up an All-American. We need depth and talent on both sides of the line to be a threat every Saturday. I hope the coaches get it right with these kids and if they need to make the switch it happens early.

miles was one of the most accomplished coaches in lsu history and you say he was a shite coach yet youre crowing O after 1 season?

Nobody is talking about that incompetent head coach. Instead, we are talking about coach O who all of you Einstein's said during that Troy State meltdown, that was really Les Miles' fault, wouldn't win four games.

Then coach O went 6 & 1 in the final seven games of the regular season. You Einstein's skipped eating crow and acted like he lost all seven of those games instead. So that means you geniuses will have to eat double the crow to make up for last year.

quote:

you mean the great Ed Orgeron couldn't coach up 4 star 2nd team players tp beat a team without a single 4 star recruit?

There weren't any players to coach up! Les Miles always had highly ranked recruiting classes but they never met LSU's needs. Miles recruited to look good. Meanwhile, Saban not only always had the number one classes but his classes at least also always met Alabama's needs, unlike Les Miles' classes that never did. Plus Saban was capable of coaching up his players, but not Miles. Indeed, nobody will touch Miles with a ten-foot pole today because he was a very mediocre coach to be nice.

The Moo State and Troy State losses last season were because we didn't have any depth in the defensive and offensive trenches. O didn't create that problem. He inherited that problem from his predecessor Les Miles. Thus, you can't blame O for what he is not responsible for. You have to blame the person most responsible for that problem, which is Les Miles.

Indeed, that's why coach O was hired, to fix all the deficiencies in the program that were created by the former coach who was fired from LSU for gross incompetence. In a couple of years if O hasn't fixed or corrected all those deficiencies he inherited from his predecessor, then yeah, you can blame coach O for that. However, because of the nature of college football, all those deficiencies can't and will not be corrected instantly, as it takes time.

Anyway, coach O addressed the lack of depth in the defensive and offensive trenches as he said he would in this very under-rated but very good recruiting class he just brought in. As his wide receiver class is rated number one, his defensive line class is rated number three, his linebacker class is rated number six, and his offensive line class is rated number nine. But most of all, this class meets our needs, unlike Mile's more highly ranked classes that never met our needs.

Moreover, at the end of the season, every winning team beats teams with fewer wins than them. Indeed, that's why they are winning teams.

Meanwhile, trying to make an issue about something so damn stupid says far more about you than it does about coach O. As the regular season isn't a damn playoff.

Space Cowgirl reminds me of a saying I remember from the Sopranos.

"Some people are so far behind in the race they believe they're leading."

What mulligans did we get either of those seasons?

And nobody but Alleva was interested in Coach O, so you pretty much just talked yourself into a corner. AGAIN.

With all the talent he's recruited, coach O will surely win at least 10 games next year

Ok, Stephen, I will play along because I actually like your approach to the situation a lot.

If he wins 10 games with all of the newcomers (players and coaches) against a tough schedule, I will be the first one back here to congratulate him. That would mean he overcame a couple of bad hires last year and installing another new offense with extremely inexperienced offensive skill players.

My question is, what will be the supporters' stance if he only wins 7 or 8 games because the new hires failed again?

Thanks man. I think my approach is pretty sound and fundamentally subtle.

You pose great questions. I'm curious about the responses you will garner

It's just all about being reasonable and discussing things without making grand predictions and making statements in absolutes. Then, not immediately calling someone childish names because someone disagrees with you. We're talking football here, not trying to solve world hunger or something.

I totally agree. It's amazing how these threads tend to be marked by one faction or another and the opposite view is not welcome. It just deteriorates into insults and name calling like you said.

It's amazing that so much of that is allowed but people get banned or whatever for being critical by providing facts. Let's have objective, mature discussion for God sake. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other. There's room for the the truth in the middle you know?

This thread gives me hope that our community can really be one heartbeat
