Wow - he has a live arm, but zero accuracy.
You can work with that.
McMillan's foot work is terrible. When he gets it right, accidentally or not, he's pretty damn accurate. He just needs to work on this foot work, HARD, and he can take his QB skills to the next level.

I had checked the score early in the game and I thought the game was locked for Houston. Wtf happened?
McMillan to running back (trick play) but MOSTLY McMillan to receivers.

It was always so awesome how miles wanted a dual threat qb only to hand off in the I formation. They could never read a defense or check down so I guess it helped so they could scramble some before getting sacked

He ran his HS offense like a madman. He had that whip like release and he made a living on screens and slants because his ball had solid velocity and he was decisive. And once he got to LSU he was a great teammate and locker room guy. I’m glad he is having success because he’s a good dude.
That almost led to his starting for us last year and a broken locker room when Burrow came in. His Spring game was incredibly overrated as he made a lot of plays with his feet, which is easy to do with a yellow jersey on.

That was so frustrating. Everyone could see defenses stacking the box, everyone. But Miles never allowed his QB to audible (maybe once or twice but rarely) and continued to run against a brick wall. It worked okay against inferior talent but against equal or better talent it was a lost cause.

LSU has a Heisman contending quarterback and they are worried about a scrub quarterback that isn't very good because he just barely beat a terrible Houston team.

He completed 7 passes.
They have the Jordan Jefferson LSU offense. They ran for 325 yards.

Kid is 8-2 as a starter, pretty damn good to me.

Obviously it's a team effort. He's not the reason Tulane is winning when he completes 7 passes. He would have been a disaster at LSU. Jordan Jefferson went 5-13 for 30 yards in the 2011 SEC championship. He's not the reason they won by 32.

quote:Judging by that list, I'd say QB evals across the board (not just at LSU) are weak. HS QB is such a tough position to project to college and then the NFL. Bear in mind that the 247 rankings specifically try to project based on eventual NFL potential. Look over that list of QBs and see how many are just way off based on that. I mean they kind of got Kyler Murray right. Darnold should have been higher. Looks like Burrow should have been much higher. Sidham and Rosen should be a bit lower. Barnett and Wimbush should be waaaaay lower. I mean ... the whole thing is kind of a mess. Just the way QB projection and recruiting goes. This is why the transfer portal is revolutionizing the position at the college level.
He was a 3*, ranked #109 QB in the nation. Other QB's in the class of 2015. The top 5 were: Jarrett Stidham Josh Rosen, Blake Barnett, Kyler Murray and Brandon Wimbush. Other notable names: Drew Locke #10, Jake Browning #11, Deondre Francis #12, Sam Darnold #13, and #15 Joe Burrow, 4*. Even Tech's QB was higher ranked, #75 J' Mar Smith, 3*. QB evaluation was really weak at LSU for a number of years during that time. I'm glad to see McMillan doing so well, but he was not an SEC caliber QB.

Would Banks have been 8- 2 during that stretch?

While I agree he is not SEC caliber, he is much better than Brandon Harris or Anthony Jennings were for LSU (or the teams hey transferred to after).

he would have a field day against our defensive line.

Looks pretty good to me. He just wins.
I mean hell, Tim Tebow had that winning streak for the Broncos in 2011, but he was a terrible NFL QB.
Just because a guy QBs a winning team doesn't necessarily mean that guy is "a winner."
All that said, I'm rooting for McMillian and that was a heck of a finish last night.

Miles. So he could have a run only offense.
Posted on 9/20/19 at 1:12 pm to JakeR
Oh let's all crap on a former LSU QB that is now finding success somewhere else! Yay!
Oh, he knew Miles?!? Well, let's shite on him more!

quote:again, as I posted in response to another similar post, that's not the standard for assessing whether a guy is a good QB. Way too many other variables.
Kid is 8-2 as a starter, pretty damn good to me.
Tim Tebow's run with the Broncos in 2011 is a great example, but here's another one. I live in Atlanta, and UGA still remembers their national championship in 1980. BUck Belue is a local radio guy, and QBed that team with Herschel in the backfield.
Belue had a 49% completion and 11/9 TD/INT. In their Sugar Bowl win against ND to seal the championship, Belue was 1-12 for 7 yards.
Winning a lot of games does not necessarily mean the QB is really good.
