last night the weatherman on nbc, said no way, they have west to east wind flow of 40 to 50mph, no way this thing is coming towards us. this model will shift to right greatly once it enters the gulf.

It actually looks like the 8am EST models kind of move it east a bit which would be good news for us.

Out of curiosity, what does Miami do when hurricanes disrupt games down there?
They rescheduled games in the recent past. I can recall two games, Georgia Tech in '05 and FSU in '04. The problem with moving games on short notice are the logistics of doing it as well as resources like law enforcement for traffic and crowd control. All resources go to the emergency, not a football game.

Looking at the latest models I'm even more confident that a landfall between Mobile and Pensacola is the odds on favorite. If this thing hits a meaty part of Cuba it could even disipate to the point where at landfall it might only be a Cat. 1.

this does suck, because I was headed to the game, then to new orleans for a long weekend....as of right now, i'd settle just to be able to watch the game on tv from monroe, but I've got to think new orleans and the weekend is completely out.....man, i feel for those folks in the city...i grew up there....its really completely frightening to me thinking about what would happen to that city if it suffers a direct hit from a big storm right now - no way its ready, from the infrastructure, to the leadership - on any level....maybe we can all just hope that memories of Katrina are still so raw that folks will leave out of fear alone....as much as i love lsu, and as ready as I am for football, I'd completely trade a reschedule of this game for the sake of the folks down there....can ya'll imagine if they played it, and started contraflow traffic sometime saturday - me and 100,000 other folks that have been drinking all day getting turned loose on contraflowing interstates during an evacuation? ouch....

just a thought for those that are still more concerned about football. A direct hit would send Louisiana high school talent all across the southeast either missing their senior years of football or finishing up in a different state. We'd essentially lose a huge portion of our recruiting grounds to our neighboring states. Also, current OOS recruits would probably have their choice affected when momma says "I'm not sending you to that cursed state that gets hit by those hurricanes". It would be a mess all around and hurt the future of the program for many years. So I think the hoping for the total avoidance of Gustav is more important than this one game.

ENTIRELY too early to predict that shite. When it gets to the gulf, then you can start predicting.

They also had to move agame against UCLA, to the end of the season, one year. I believe it was the year UCLA was undefeated and Miami/E. James blew them out.

that is the biggest concern with regard to the game, all state police have been put on standby

Weather(men-women) are notoriously known for 50/50 doing their normal forecast! I say throw caution to the winds, Mother Nature will do what she will do maybe one in a hundred of the forecasters will be accurate. For example this model says it will be here: LINK Therefore if that is 2 AM Saturday, how far away is this and does this cause panic, subliminal cerebral panic of the masses?
Being a climatologist is a safer job than being a politician! What did they do back before they had all of these sophisticated technological devices.
It is your right to put your heads, property and rights in the hands of the like of the so called Homeland Security and FEMA groups who have proven to be disastorous in there short lives.
This is the 2AM expectations from the so called experts: LINK
I say, don't move until Sunday and let the game go on......with the understanding that "you can run but you can't hide philosopy."
First we had a governor that didn't act on her lack of knowledge of what the Corp of Engineers didn't do over a 20-30 year time frame. Now we have one over reacting to the new wave government that scares the hell out of the masses.
With that,
have faith in GOD not humans, because you can expect copious amounts of errors coming from our great leaders and climatologist......they are humans, am I right?

The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy, but these are new. They look human - sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot.

LSU vs App State, Saturday.
Bet you $10,000 game is played Saturday in Baton Rouge, no matter if/when contraflow goes into affect.
So let's get this straight:
"no matter if/when contraflow goes into effect" means you'll bet me 10K that if contraflow starts any time Sat the game will still be played?
I'll take that bet sir! GLADLY.

the latest..................
Emergency planners say a phased evacuation of South Louisiana may start Friday as they watch Gustav's track.
"I am very concerned about it," says Tab Troxler, Director of Emergency Preparedness in St. Charles Parish. He adds that an evacuation this time could be the largest ever.
"Katrina went pretty well with the evacuation... but there really were not that many parishes in South Louisiana actually calling for any kind of mandatory evacuation," Troxler told WWL First News. He says the current best guess from the Hurricane Center calls for a landfall somewhere around Morgan City, Louisiana Tuesday or Wednesday, and that would mean clearing out a lot more people.
"That brings a lot of other parishes into play... that would have a need and most likely would have to call for an evacuation," Troxler says. He adds that when you look at evacuating everyone from Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Orleans, Jefferson, St. Charles, LaFourche, Terrebonne and further west; it would be unprecedented.

Ok so it looks like the game will be on at least.. Gustav stalled over Haiti last night. That brings its immediate course northward for the time being before it ridges on the trough. GFDL was WAYYY too fast in its previous runs.. There is also a chance Gustav breaks up over Cuba but not likely. The stall will not bring it into our area until Monday. With landfall tuesday or even wed. Contra flow will never begin more than 2 days out as it coulod put people in harms way if the hurricane shifts. (You wouldnt want to evac NOLA to Houston if the hurricane can still shift to Houston)

Wouldn't LSU have to wait until the governor declares a state of emergency before they cancel/reschedule the game? That might not happen until Friday.

the west north west movement is not good for la as a whole - they have it at the mouth of the river now monday at 8am - remember we had the game with hurricane georges.

Exactly. If that storm stays on its current track I don't see a game being played Saturday in Baton Rouge. Katrina changed everything. None of us know when or where it will strike but I don't see Jindal taking any chances.
