I will say it again.. GFDL is one of the most unreliable models past 3 days. Even then I dont see anywhere that indicated it would hit NOLA on Sunday The last run of GFDL puts it about 200 miles off the mouth of the MS on Sunday.

I'm just going by Jeff Masters blog on Wunderground and he says the latest GFDL model has it hitting New Orleans Sunday Afternoon. If (and that is a BIG IF) that happens then there will be no game on Saturday.

Again straight from Jeff Masters blog:

The GFDL is the fastest, bringing Gustav to New Orleans on Sunday afternoon. This is a plausible forecast, but at this point, virtually any point along the Gulf Coast has a roughly equal chance of a direct hit by Gustav.

If it does get here that quick, ain't no damn way the government gonna screw around.....they will cancel the game. Esp. if it looks like NO will get hit.

i'm sure it will turn off one way or another.. it seems like they (weather people) usually tend to say new orleans in the beginning every time there's one in the gulf..

I just want to know how the guy is predicting something based on a computer model that the computer model hasnt even predicted yet?? At 126 hours out 12 zulu (7am cdt) on the 31st the furthest out that model runs it is still off the coast of MS/LA. Basically he is playing Miss Cleo and using the model as an example to predict a run that hasnt occured yet.

Catman: I guess we can both agree that nobody knows yet where this thing will go or how big it will be. But I will still be checking a couple of times a day when the new models come out to see where this thing is headed.

There is cause for concern, but at this point that is all there is.

Catman, stop getting so pissed man. No one is doomsdaying it.

And it's not just the GFDL that has me concerned, BUT EVERY RELIABLE MODEL has it in the central gulf. That alone should demostrate itself that all eyes should be on it.

The convergence of these models are getting closer and closer. If pressed, I think the TX/LA border is in scope. But stop saying that every model is the equivalent of miss cleo.

It's those models that got me started preparing for Katrina - Not the NHC late's shift in track.

No way are they going to call off a nationally televised game over the Possibility that a hurricane will hit LA a day after the game will have been played. Doesn't everyone know that LSU football is more important than life itself.

RedHawk it's only fair to warn you that we might be attacked by the Swedish air force this weekend forcing a game cancellation. This is the exact same possibility as the game being cancelled by a hurricane this weekend ... but as you say it is a possibility so it should be a topic for the Rant. The admins like it too so youre in solid with them ... it's far more important than the game itself.

If the thread isn't relevent, then why is it 5 pages long?

If a storm is in the position it is in on Saturday night...that gives it another 2 days before land fall.

I suggest have a great time at the game, but take precautions on sunday IF IT IS STILL A THREAT TO LA.

I am flying in Friday to New Orleans driving to Baton Rouge Sat then back to NO on Sunday to fly out Monday morning. The hurricane concerns me just a bit for a flight Monday could be a bumpy ride if it wasn’t canceled.

No way they call of a game if it is forcast to hit NO on Sunday. Is not like it takes 2-3 days to evacuate the lower parishes and new orleans. Is not like everyone will be gun shy since Katrina. And it's not that big of a deal that the hotels in BR will be booked with those comming to see the tigers play, and that alot on evacuees will want to stay in BR. Or the fact that LSU was used as an evacuation center for Katrina either.

Yea... no chance, if that senerio plays out, that they cancel the game. I don't see what all the fuss is about

Basically, you are comparing a former NOAA meteorologist and hurricane hunter to a celebrity psychic while pretending to be the only person in the world to have access to the models. And then you attack the other poster. Priceless.

Current projections have it entering the gulf on Sunday night and will become a major cat 5 storm. Current track is right at us; this ain't good folks.

The National Weather Service report at 11 AM has it going to a top speed of 105 knots thus far, a Cat 3. Where do you get your info from? I don't see any forecast for a Cat 5 yet.

OK, Call me a fool, but I will not succumb to the belief that a major hurricane will hit our area again for some time...I will continue to believe that we took our hit & the powers that control such things will not send another our way for some time...I repeat this positive thought every time something stirs up in the Atlantic...I did the same last year & the year before...we have nothing to lose by sending out energy that says that a major storm WILL NOT strike us again ...same energy I sent out to the Tigers after the ARkansas game when all looked lost....some pretty powerful energy!

Yeah...at this point I'd say a possible cat 5....you'd have to be concerned once and if he hits the steroids of huricanes known as the Gulf Loop Current...if it crossed that look for a Cat 5 to form (albeit it is very hard for it to contain that kind of strength for a long period of time)

If the storm heads to Louisiana, and if this thread survives the next hundred clones ... it'll go 100+ pages. It still doesn't belong on the Rant ... move it to the O-T.
