that's a good point too but i think some people have the perception maybe incorrectly that miles does not play his younger players even if they are deserving of it....

I can't speak to that but I can speak to the fact that a common thing among college fans is to dream about the current freshman who was a 4-5 star recruit while forgetting the current Jr/Sr was ALSO a 4-5 star recruit.

It's as if a player is not a stud in his 1st two years, people assume he is a bust so they start looking to the next TOTALLY UNPROVEN ON A COLLEGE FIELD 4-5 star recruit.

In college, perhaps the only thing more popular than the kid who hasn't played a down is the back up QB.

but i thought les has a reputation of playing more senior players even if they had less potential..
A reputation propigated by this board by people who are obsessed with highlight clips and think every 4* or 5* player should come in and see the field immediately or Les is playing favorites. This is a pretty stupid assumption since not one of these people that claim Les plays favorites has ever seen a practice or knows to what extent our freshman are mentally ready to play.

Our roster is full of 4* and 5* players or underrated players that beat out 4* or 5* players to win a job. I don't think Les is playing favorites. He has shown he will play a young player when they are ready to play. Some people act like a true freshman has never played or started for LSU since Les has been coach. That is simply not true.

umm a lot of freshman did play. just because the ball didn't end up in their hands or their name wasn't called doesn't mean they didn't get a chance. obviously, russell shepard is a glaring exception. on that point, i'll go with everyone else and say its just the first game, our potential recruits aren't gonna care yet.

Even funnier. Often the current "Les Favorite" is someone who 2 years earlier, wasn't playing and LSU fans were demanding he get in as a Freshman.

I tell people this all the time. Think about it. If your current recruits are consitently beating out beating out the guys you've had for 2-3 years that can ONLY mean

1)You recruited very poorly 2-3 years ago or

2)You aren't developing your players worth shite.

How is a potential recruit going to feel if he realizes that his playing time will diminish during his junior and senior years, because the coaches are parading unproven freshman into the game? Especially, after he has been with the program for a few years and has paid his dues to it. This is a stupid discussion!

Stupid question....LSU is an awesome football program where top flight recruits want to play.

We have the greatest fans on the planet...unfortunately the bottom 1% of our gene pool resides on this site. You my friend are in that bottom 1% with this post.

True.

Potential recruits might want to play now but even your average idiot 17 year old knows that if the teams needs A LOT of their freshman to play, that aint a good sign.

I have to admit that I am amazed at the amount of venom spewed from a thread. In my mind, I wasn't worried that the sky had fallen and that we had to rethink the level of success our path has taken us over the years. I certainly knew it was just one game and knew that things will be different this week than they were this past week and it will continue on that path all year long. I have full faith in Les Miles' ability to build and maintain a winner at LSU as well as recruit with success now and in the future regardless of recruits that want ot play right away. I was only trying to get some debate going on what others might think. I can't imagine sitting at a computer getting angry to the point of name calling and venom spewing from just being on a blog type website. If it made me that angry, I simply would just skip it and move on to a different thread that did interest me. But that is just me. Anyway, have a great week. Yes, this is only my 4th post so clearly I have to be aware that there are those that take debate VERY serious on this board. I am very grateful for those that simply responded with their opinion.

I was curious as to what some of you thought about what impact the lack of freshmen play might have on potential recruits.
4 of the recruits that we had verbals from retracted their statement today. Heard it on 94.5 KSMB, Twylla was telling Bobby.

Stick around then, the Rant never ceases to amaze ME.

Since you're new, let me caution you that half of what's posted is in fun and no REAL harm intended. You'll learn to sift through it.

Glad to hear that there is no harm intended. I'll just sift through it as you advise and keep my thoughts to myself about what motivates others. I appreciate your feedback.

People did completely overreact to your post, but I think they were really replying to some of the other tards the last few days who seem to be so anti-Miles. You got thrown in. You do have a valid point--it's just way too early to make it. I enjoyed some of the non-venomous rebuttals as well.

We are starting a true sophomore qb over an older guy that has more experience in the system. Peterson started at CB as a true freshman. Chad Jones got on the field as a freshman. These are just a very few examples of high-profile recruits who have played early under Miles. The track record is there. It can't be denied. I would say that Miles has been even less likely to redshirt players than Saban was. Saban has been forced to play them at Bama because the cupboard was partially bare.
