Give us a big arm Friday starter ala Alex Lange or healthy Jaden hill and we go deep IMO. The pitching staff we have has been very effectively used IMO

Even that’s not necessary although it would be amazing. Just give us an AJ Labas or another Hilliard and this team wins 19 sec regular season games and is a national seed.

And whoever listed Gio along with Crews, Morgan, Doughty, and Dugas.....lol Gio has been bad outside of one season for LSU. That was the covid year...he played 13 games and hit 0.351.

Gio Stats:
2019: 38H in 138 AB for .275 avg
2020: 13H in 37 AB for .351 avg
2021: 29H in 99 AB for .293 avg

For 2018-2021:
80H in 274 AB .292 avg

For 2022:
14H in 68 AB for .206 avg

This is the only season Gio has been bad and it's the statistical outlier. A LHB who hits .292 and can run would start on a lot of SEC teams.

Imagine this team without the players Johnson brought with him. And there’s your answer.

This staff has too many one pitch pitchers. Reyzelman, Floyd, Gervase are all 94% fastball pitchers. Vitello has shown you how to build a staff, that is with 3 pitch pitchers who are confident at throwing all 3 and can consistently throw strikes. Now Gervase and Reyzelman have had done well in spite of that because of their ball movement and location.

Jay Johnson has done a very good job with the talent he inherited from Maineri. LSU is woeful at SS and Catcher, and has a very limited pitching staff. To win 38 games and finish 4th in the SEC with what he inherited is a good job.

Maineri left some serious holes in LSU’s team talent and that cannot be denied.

Every problem on LSU's team can be correlated with PM's complete lazy recruiting his final years at LSU. Depth, starters, bullpen. All our problems are because of him. Yes, it's PM's fault. Give JJ a few years then you can complain about him all you want if this is how it's going to be.

I think JJ has done an excellent job with this team so far considering the gaping holes it has. Think of it like this: JJ has dealt with a patched together starting pitching and he has been extremely unlucky with injuries. Imagine plucking a few from last year's team on pitching this year and it would make a world of difference. Look where we're at still. JJ has done a very good job. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't watch baseball.

I think after year 3-4 LSU is going to be in serious contention for a title. Let him get settled in here.

Thompson had less errors last year and made the freshman all SEC team. Jay Johnson called him the most improved player on the team. He was a top 60 recruit nationally coming out of high school.

Nah, not every problem. The infield defense regressed this year with the same players.

And Johnson didn’t run at all when it was one of the few things this group did well last year.

Most of the other things he did were very very solid.

Well in his Sophomore year (this year) Thompson led the entire SEC in errors and many were poor throws to 1st base. I saw it and it was obvious LSU has a problem at Short Stop. LSU needs to recruit a SS and that’s all there is to it.

Yes!!! Less than a year since he left the team with virtually no pitching and little depth.

Means he has time to improve. Ever heard of a down year? He also increased his batting average towards the end of conference play.

They have. Check the recruiting class. And of course they recruit shortstops as Thompson only has two years left. Maybe one if he blows up and turns himself into a higher draft pick.

Dugas, Doughty, and Gio belong on this list. Dugas led the SEC in RBIs in '21. And Gio was a lifetime like .290 hitter and can run.

And we had a little leaguer at 2nd base who couldn’t hit his weight.

Missing the point - CPM shut down his active participation and travel on the recruiting circuit. It’s why he agreed to hire Andy C in order to supplement his absence. He publicly stated more than a few times this program recruits itself by reputation. It’s why Sully, Cohen, and Corbin passed him by.

Hell, some of his class didn’t even meet him face to face until they showed up on officials in BTR. Need proof? See Jake Slaughter and J Hill

All I said was that you can’t blame the fact that this team got worse defensively on PM

Didn’t he recruit most of these kids? That’s the point, PM quit bringing in the talent necessary to get to Omaha and then to win it all.
My point is outside of Crews, Morgan and Milazzo there are no top shelf defensive guys playing. Milazzo is hurt. Who are the other good glove guys that PM left that could hit?

JJ used what he had while bringing in bats not glove guys. He needs to bring in better gloves now as PM guys graduate or move on.
