thats actually pretty strong. had he made the tournament in the other years, he'd still be coach.

rantards?

Johnson is a GOOD coach.

Brady was not.

period.

Doc, I don't necessarily disagree. But I know what happens on The Rant when we don't win every game by 30 points. Maybe Johnson gets a pass this year but I really think someone will be questioning his intelligence if we don't win the West.

Yes I know, it's all those disappointing seasons and inconsistency which got him fired.

I think it's the right place to expect an NCAA tourney birth this year considering how good the team is and how down the SEC is. We're already 8-0 and we should win plenty more games. Next year could be pretty tough simply because he could lose up to 6 players and he just doesn't have the time to go out and get 5 or 6 replacements.

The wins and losses do not concern me so much as the growth of the program. Granted it is still early and we haven't taken on 'world -beaters', but I like the direction the program is going now with Coach Johnson than last year with Coach Brady. That is all. And I would still be here supporting the basketball team if and when we have a few losses. But I think that this b-ball team will be competitive.

I think Brady's down fall was that he could never picture himself as the LSU Head Coach. It was his dream job and he got it so early that he was never comfortable.

outstanding....you just articulated what I have been trying to get a handle on for a while. I think this is the most objective and accurate appraisal of the Brady era that I have seen yet. I think Brady knew basketball...he was just terrible with building a program. And i think you nailed it.

I'm glad Brady is gone and hope Johnson does well.

With that said, saying Brady was "a terrible coach" is insane. You don't go to the Final Four beating teams like Duke and Texas along the way if you are 'terrible'. I don't care what 'talent' you have.

Brady looked and acted like a dirty old man who had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

I've spoken with former players of Brady's and even they say the man couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper sack.

I agree with this. While I like what Johnson has done so far and I like his demeanor, we haven't hit SEC play yet. It may be a down year for the league but LSU doesn't have a strong post presence and will get outrebounded often. They also have a tendency, just like last year, where they go long stretches without a basket. So let's not go crazy just yet.

I'm glad Brady is gone, glad Johnson is here. But just like with any coach, the proof is in the pudding of recruiting. If he can recruit the best players from La. consistently, he'll win and have a long career here.

If he can't, he won't win no matter how good of a coach he is.

Um, Bobby Knight and Coach K haven't made a basket in years.
For a dumb arse, Brady's LSU teams beat some damn good coaches with vastly inferior talent while he was HC.

Good grief.

LSU's Final Four team was a group of players that Collis Temple had hand picked to play together since they were about six. He delivered a whole team to Brady.

We beat Duke because Garrett Temple went to Brady and told him he was going to guard J.J. Reddick.

Hate to do this, but I have to bring up the discrepency in attitudes on here about what it means to be a "good coach". Those on here that loved Saban's methods claim that getting in a kids face and giving them a good tongue lashing is good coaching. Yet when Brady did it, he was a jerk (which I actually think he was). Some are so glad that those days are gone and Johnson's much calmer demeaner is now present on the sidelines. Yet, some of the same people claim that part of Miles' failure is his lack of getting in kids face and screaming. Could it possibly be that when you win....people don't care what you do as a coach, but when you lose, eveything you do is put under the microscope and considered wrong? Just sayin'.....

I never did much care for watching Nick Saban acting like a blithering idiot on the sidelines. I liked him because he knew how to teach, not because he knew how to motivate. Those are two totally different things.
