"...Are we gonna split hairs here, Donnie?!"

i don't care if he misses some assignments, as long as his net positive outweighs the negatives enough to put him ahead of the other backs. and i think it does
But you haven't seen all the practices to know this.
I havent either obviously, but you never know, Charles Scott may have worked harder in the offseason and is the better RB right now.
I always thought Scott was our best RB, you always thought it was KW. An argument can be made for both, but it was a pretty close race the whole way, you cant really deny that. Maybe Scott used the offseason to overtake KW.

Well since we're on the subject and I want to keep this thread going, I might as well put my two cents in...Keiland Williams is vastly over rated and Charles Scott is now finally getting the credit he deserves. I feel Keiland gets all the hype because he was just so decorated out of high school as a recruit and the hype just carried over to college, even though he has produced on the field in college about the same as all of our other backs, except Hester.

Well, I do believe Scott is a better RB, but you have to admit, the last couple of years, in the carries he's had, KW has produced just as good as any of our RBs.

KW is a big play waiting to happen.

your right, from production on the field, KW and Scott should be the main two this season, Murphy has his fans, but should be used in situations calling for his talents.
Posted on 8/11/08 at 9:08 am to tubucoco
I like Murphy alright but i mean he has like a 30 yard run in the Ohio State game after the game was decided and thats pretty much his entire career.
Posted on 8/11/08 at 9:37 am to Maximus
I seem to remember a fourth and 10 swing pass to Murphy in the Kentucky game that didn't call for anything spectacular from him, but for Crowton to give him the ball under those cirumstances at the line of scrimmage needing 10 yards, says something.
Did you go to the Spring Game? I know that doesn't count for the stat guys, but I was impressed, and so was the staff.

well, if we play any games against 130lb white walk-ons i will trust Murphy over the rest because he has proven he can dominate them in practice games.

SlowFlow I don't agree. That is like saying it doesn't matter what Ryan Perrilloux did or what he does at practice that we need to go with the guy that could get it done on the field.
i've said before in this thread that unless you're a cancer (which RP was), then it shouldn't matter

Let's say player A has tremendous physical talent. On the first play gains 20 yards, second gains 15. On the third play the QB checks to a pass but player A mis-reads a block and the qb gets hit and fumbles. Player B, on the same plays, gains 15 yards, 10 yards, picks up the block on the third and the qb throws for a TD.
i said if the net positives of player A outweigh the net negatives more than the net positives of player B, then A should start. the situation you laid out makes the net positives of player B greater than those of player A
let's say that player A runs 10, 15, 4, -7, and 15 and player B would get 3, 5, 5, 10, 2, 3, and 4.
you'd go with player A everytime, even tho he had a -7 yard play (this could be your sack)

do you not think that work ethic, focus, practice habits, etc. are important predictors of success?
they CAN be important, but that doesn't make the player
great production on the field (assuming he's not a cancer, which KW clearly isn't) makes you successful
that should be the #1 focus

if charles scott is better than KW then he should be the starter. i've never denied that
scott faced the same problems that KW did last year. scott > hester as well
why didn't he get more PT?

did you watch the 2006 season? the VT game in 2007?

KW has produced a lot more than charles scott so far. he's gotten more PT than scott, but accordingly he's produced more

and keiland was our goaline back against MSU when hester couldn't get the job done. your point?
hell keiland had a 4th down swing pass conversion himself

Met Crowton at fan day yesterday and was greatly impressed with his personality and outward confidence. The guy has decisions to make at every position about who starts when and why and who replaces who. His TB postion to us is confusing (and fun hype), but he knows exactly what he will do and how he will change things depending on how the players perform . Whatever he does, he will have no patience at all to see a guy "develop." The TBs will have to excell or sit down.

Yes, he did.
I thought I was responding to other backs who can produce.
My bad.
