but that is not my argument. my argument was simply who was the best coach here.

Nick only had one season here with fewer than 3 losses.
He was still learning when he was at LSU.

the potential to be Alabama Nick was evident and obvious, but he wasn’t there yet when he was at in Baton Rouge.
Saban’s last year at LSU we got our asses handed to us by UGA with players taking a knee at the 1 yard line type mistakes happening.
Hell, even during the ‘03 title run people were bitching about Nick as a coach.

Les peaked here and gave us 5 seasons with 2 losses or fewer.

His peak was nowhere near Saban’s, but we didn’t get Saban’s peak. Alabama did.

Oregon - only season opener vs. a legit team on your list (the other two during Miles’ tenure were Wisconsin). Va Tech - not a season opener, though it was a legit OOC win. TCU - finished 4-8 (2-7) unranked. BYU - finished 4-9 unranked.

Appreciate the fact check. Regardless, to add to those mentioned games I’ll throw in West Virginia twice, North Carolina, Arizona, Washington twice, etc. They werent always the prettiest wins but damn it Les beat the big out of conference opponents regardless where their records ended up. I know one is O’s fault but a 4 game losing streak to UCLA, FSU twice, and USC sure makes ya miss those Miles years regardless who is a better coach.

I’ve been very critical of BK this week. I don’t think we should fire him and I’m not saying Miles is better. But, playing UCLA, FSU twice, and USC…I’d like Miles’ chances of winning a few of those games and history would suggest he probably would’ve. This stretch has suck!

LSU played a part in where their final poll rank ended to somewhat dilute this shade he throws on the accomplishment also.

He won more than he lost, and it took him way overstaying his welcome while not adjusting for it to look "bad"

My take on Les was always - the first time I heard him speak I was totally underwhelmed. But that's an issue of mine judging them on how they handle publicly speaking so I withheld, then like the first are second game here he's trying to call a timeout with the clock stopped and they guy that held the chord for his headphones had to stop him from doing it. I was worried.

He inherited a very good thing and was very fortunate to get this gig, but I will admit he managed to sustain success longer than I thought he could or would...had some good fortune but kept the talent level up and generally hired good assistants. I personally think had he stayed at Okie St. he very likely would have won nothing of note and been about at the level or maybe even a bit below what Gundy has done there.

I never bought that he was this calculating genius who played the bumbling Columbo role to dupe his adversaries....some folks did and some still do as I've read here, but I saw him enough in situations where he had no reason to play that role to never buy into it.

Kelly took over a much tougher situation than Les did. Only time will tell whether or not he's as good or better or worse.
