By the same token, there are bound to be quite a few people who oppose the criminalization of marijuana because it's stupid, but also happen to smoke a little weed every now and then. They oppose the law not because the weed is so important to them or because they like smoking it so much, but because it's a stupid law that crowds our justice system with needless backlogs of cases, channels harmless and potentially productive citizens into the criminal justice system's destructive effects and serves no useful purpose for our society.

I disagree. I think the large majority (not all) of people who defend smoking marijuana are smokers.

And personally, I don't have a problem at all with it being illegal. I certainly wouldn't / won't hire someone who smokes marijuana, certainly wouldn't want my doctor, attorney, financial advisor, etc. to be a smoker, and wouldn't want anyone who is a caretaker for my children (teacher, daycare worker, etc.) to be a smoker. In fact, I don't want to walk, drive, or sit next to anyone who is on marijuana.

Would you hire a guy that went home and got a little buzz on a few nights a week? Chances are, you wouldn't even know if a person "on marijuana" were in your presence.

Now, that's funny!

Imagine someone not wanting someone taking care of their health, money, or children doing drugs.

Very worthy of a

If I'm on a pedastal it's 2 ft in the air.

in about 15 years marijuana will be decriminalized and we will all laugh at the most failed war of all time, the war on drugs.

You sound like a tool.

Of course nobody wants that, Captain Obvious. But you're making it sound like you don't associate with anyone that has a few drinks or smokes. The pedastal is so high for you because you condemn anybody that does. THAT is what makes you a douche bag. You judgemental prick.

You're absolutely right about that. There is already a huge decriminalizing effort going on in local communities all over the country, and they are succeeding!

And the war on drugs is the horrible. Since Nixon declared this "war" drug use has risen dramatically and government has expanded enormously, all for a failed effort. Way to go!

Marijuana is destructive. It impairs judgment, memory, reasoning, coordination, and initiative and affects personality. It's addictive and can be a gateway to more dangerous drugs. It often coincides with poor job and school performance and can adversely effect relationships. Like it or not, that's just the way it is.

How do I know this? Because I used to do the stuff. Every.Single.Day. That was years ago, but I still live with some of the effects today, including health issues related to more serious drugs I did, and strained family relationships because of dumb things I did as a druggie. It took a real miracle of God to get me away from it.

I've heard all of the rationalizations; hell I've I probably invented a couple of them myself. I didn't come here looking to lecture or preach, but I could not be silent after reading some of these posts. Not everybody's situation is like mine obviously, and I hope it never is. But don't tell me marijuana is harmless. You may be fooling yourself, but you're not fooling me.

As for Kevin Faulk, I don't know his situation but I wish him the best, and if he has a problem, I'm confident he'll overcome it like the champion and the Tiger he is. That is all.

Let's see....ummm, so is alcohol, cigarettes, fast food....anything I missed?

If you do anything like that "Every.Single.Day." then yea you might experience some negative effects.

But I'm for freedom, and if you want to smoke everyday and waste you life on the couch watching reruns of "The Golden Girls" then go for it. If you want to to eat three Big Macs a day and become obese then go for it. Just be willing to accept responsibility for your actions (something Americans seem to be unwilling to do).

Not at all. What I said (or meant to say) was I don't want to be next to anyone who's been smoking.

You sound like a smoker.

Wow. Did somebody touch a nerve here? Smoke much?

Judgmental prick? We're talking about a guy who doesn't want to associate with people who use illegal drugs. Who doesn't want his doctor, accountant or child care provider to show the type of poor judgment to get themselves arrested. I'm sure we can all agree that marijuana use, by itself, isn't as bad as other drugs. But still, it is illegal. And if you use it, you might get arrested. Wouldn't you agree that is bad judgment? All for what? Getting high? Most have done it in the past but when you grow up, you put those things behind you. Or you should.
