I think you can't go out there and play to not get someone hurt. You set yourself up for failure if you do that.

That's one hell of a scout team.
Now they better hope that the scout team doesn't beat the o-line starters up too bad.

Not much choice when McCoy is also your best running option on the team.

What has these guys in all of this trouble? Is this the investigation that Marcel Dareus on our team is mixed up in?
Actually that investigation just uncovered worse things at UNC... a tutor was apparently writing papers for UNC football players (or something along those lines)

1. A question could be, "is their scout squad defense better than what their offense will see in the real game in Atlanta?" I say, no way.
2. I agree that the second teamers are still D-1 players. They can recover fumbles as good as anyone. Point is...if we catch them down, don't give up turnovers to keep them in the game. Knock them out early.

Does the fact that they are running with the scout team really mean anything in terms of if they play? Can't Butch just decide on Thursday or Friday to play them all, even though they've been running with the scout team?

It does not mean anything on if they play in the game or not. I think that Butch does have the authority to play anyone he wants that the school also agrees is OK to play. They would be risking possibly forfeiting their W's if they do allow anyone to play that is later found guilty of any infractions.

Rankings and stats don't take injuries and suspensions into account... We will win and we will run up the score to make a statement. UNC is ranked ahead of us for only one week this year.

Whoever is playing to set the time for the season and establish who we are

Austin wasn't on the scout team? You'd think he'd be the first on there...

A couple of observations:
1. These guys will all play in the game. Maybe not Austin, who is caught in the agent scandal, but all of these tutor-gate players will play against LSU. So the Tigers need to be expecting it and not let them gain a psychological edge by having them on the field.
2. If by chance they don't play, our offense had better not take the new starters lightly. After all, it's not like we were killing the bad defenses we played last year. We need to change the mentality on offense starting with game one: one that attacks not reacts. And that's true regardless of who lines up across from us.

If they play those guys, UNC deserves whatever punishment the NCAA slaps them with later on. The school will be punished, not just the players. You can't just say "frick you NCAA, I'm playing to win, knowing the risk".
They have a investigation on them for a reason, not to just be curious...
Also, UNC should lose all respect from everyone. They basically send a big fat F U to all their hard working players who didn't cheat too. 1% chance they play and I say 1% because I wouldn't put it past some programs to do it anyway...

All we know are very limited facts centered around one person. I would think they could investigate and clear a bunch of these guys this week. I will be SHOCKED if any of them are forced to sit out other than Austin.

no scoop, this has to do with players and tutors that did some work for the players.

They will play. Book it Danno.

I think at this point the coach has talked to the players and knows if the allegations are true or not, and he wont play them if they are true. OR he is convinced they are.
But He can't in good mind go out and play a game knowing it will be vacated later that gives you a 0% chance of winning

Yeah, I'm about 98% sure they'll all play next Saturday

I seriously doubt it. UNC is handling this part of the investigation, and they feel their academic reputation is at stake. If anyone plays and is deemed ineligible later, they will forfeit the game. Anyone that they are reasonably uncertain of is not going to be out there.
Posted on 8/29/10 at 5:34 pm to DocBugbear
I will be more than surprised if any of these guys play. The NCAA will skull f--- unc if they play players that are eventually found guilty of cheating.. No way they risk it...
