Um...it's in no way like that.

I think most dudes out there wouldn't mind a career where you're rich, famous, and paid to talk about football.

It's Herpies' job, as an employee of ESPN and ABC (Disney), to "stir the pot" for the sole purpose of increasing viewership (and thus $$) for the Sat. night primetime telecast on ABC of Oregon vs. LSU.

Somebody writes this script for him. C'mon, folks, this is SOP and has been done way before Jay Leno or Johnny Carson premiered many years ago.

BTW, the scriptwriters involved should be commended. Whether Herpey believes this or not is irrelevant. This was a good commercial for the LSU - Oregon game! That's all it was, IMO.

It makes for interesting discussion on all possible media venues, but Herbstreit is undoubtably very good at his trade. He has been part of College Gameday and a commentator of major college football games for many, many years. Now, do I dislike him and his tie-in to his alma mater Ohio State? Yes. Surprisingly, (IMO as a LSU fan), his homerism has not entered into his reporting over the many years I have seen him on TV. As one poster said, he may (somewhat indirectly) be a homer for Ohio State in the fact that he sometimes pulls against LSU. Yet I have seen him at times do nothing but praise LSU.

Praise LSU? Pull against LSU?

Sounds pretty objective to me...

I still don't like him!

Proof Herbie is not always an OSU homer:

‘Relentless’ Buckeye fans force Herbstreit to move from Ohio

I like how the guy describes the fans as shameless, braying jackasses, the dolt minority, and their need to live vicariously through some laundry and colors. Good stuff.

ESPN West coast Guide to Direct Response Marketing & Advertising. Kirk Herbstreit predicts, is West coast TV media talk.
With out USC in the current 2011 BCS big picture outlook. Oregon Ducks are ESPN's focus as long as the Ducks luck holds up. Talking the Duck outlook up big.
When USC get back on it's feet ESPN will drop Oregon like a hot potato.
TV Media talk.

Sorry Oregon has a successful businessman who supports and school and graduated from it. Herstreit is one of the best if not thee best sports casters today. Lets not get envious because your quaterback is a thug and cant throw the ball. Your team is better off wtihout him.

The Ducks lost too much along their lines on both sides of the ball. I have no trouble with people picking Bama, because their defense is gonna be just plain mean and nasty.

I think Oklahoma has one of the easiest paths to the title game among teams with a lot of talent.

The real WTF pick of Herbie's was Virginia Tech. They choke EVERY YEAR and should never be listed as a true contender until they win a big game. As far as picking Oregon, he just talked about speed. No mention of replacing their lines. Maybe they get by LSU because of the JJ distraction, but no way they can beat Alabama in the trenches in Herbie's scenario. Who was the last team to lose in the BCS title game and return the next year to win it all?

unfortunately, he did correctly pick auburn preseason last year. however, his historical gane record is 53% so I wouldn't put too much salt in this.

Antonio , Oregon plays more than two games. Their schedule includes nine conf. games. Maybe you don't like it, but in all conferences, in games are tough.

NO, they are not. Playing the likes of WSU, Washington, the two Arzonas and now Colorado may make you wet yourself, but it wouldn't make an SEC team's heart rate increase one beat per minute.

In fact, those are the kinds of teams SEC teams get routinely criticized for scheduling OOC.
