As someone said before, O'keefe could not have done this.

If you had taken the time to read the contract you would have found that the chancellor did have the authority to extend the contract through December 31, 2014. The board can delegate authority for such issues.

Get your facts straight.

It doesn't automatically rollover

It can be suggested by the chancellor that it be extended if he wins 8, but it doesn't have to be, and it still would have to be approved by the BOS

...or something like that

It does not rollover automatically but the President does have to concur with a denial of the rollover.

I wouldn't take that article as gospel.

Ed jacked it up.

I like Bill King but he needs to do his homework. I am pretty sure the contract gives the chancellor the authority to extend the contract for one year if LSU wins eight games in a particular season. It doesn't say that he has to but that he can without approval from the board of supervisors. I think O'Keefe or whoever did this after the 08 season but not after last year.

Unless the wheels come off the program Miles isnt going anywhere. With this defense, its unlikely the wheels come off.

MIles has done WAY TOO MUCH for this program to be let go. He runs a clean quality program, he has a decent grad rate, players love him, and he recruits like nobody's biz.

All he needs is an OC and QB, preferably an OC that can manage the clock and we're set.

That is incorrect.

I disagree. I think he has until next year to win the west or he will be sent packing.

I think that's probably right. But it also appears, from the same contract addendum, that the Chancellor doesn't have the power to simply grant a 2-year extension. I read it to mean the he can grant up to 2, one-year extensions, should he so choose after an 8+ win season.

And if that's true, O'Keefe would have had to perform two separate acts - one 1-year extension after the 2008 season, and a second 1-year extension after the 2009 season. So if Miles' contract does indeed go to 2014, I think there should be 2 letters, not just one.

I think Les will never again achieve excellence. There are many informed people who believe that he lacks the many key attributes such as 'attention to details' necessary to sustain excellence. He makes bad decisions such as Malveto and sticking with Crowton & JJ. He is inarticulate and represents LSU poorly in the public eye. He has yet to prove that his early success was attribute to anything other than inheriting a terrific roster with discipline and mental toughness instilled by his predecessor. Other programs have or are bypassing LSU (Bama, UF, AU is on the rise as is Arkansas). We have a two game losing streak to Ole Miss. We should have a three game losing streak to Arkansas. The trend is not good. We can sustain mediocrity for a while but we aren't paying $4,000,000 for mediocrity

What dumbass structured that contract that way?

Most of our seasons have at least 5 gimme games.
So basically we are telling Miles as long as he wins 3 out of 7 he's good?

No wonder he got more conservative after 2007.

No. He does not get an automatic rollover.

If he gets to 8 wins then he is eligible for a rollover.

But said rollover would have to be approved by the LSU President.

Miles did not have his contract rolled over in 2008 or 2009.

he was extended through 2012 in January of 2008 (after the 2007 season). They didn't roll it over in 2008 or 2009 so the deal is still through 2012. Daniels is a fricking hack. He should stick to being JT's sidekick on Friday Night Football
