Heckin love those white endzones, but why was our Mike so ratchet looking?

This and A&M in 1986 are the two best games of the mid 80's Arsnparger/Archer era. The earthquake game ending was awesome but it was one play after we had not scored a TD in almost 8 quarters and only prevented a 3 game losing streak.
The Earthquake game was an incredibly boring game overall. It just had legendary ending.
The 87 Bowl win was the outlier in that era. From 1984 - 1988 LSU had some really good teams. However, they were 1-4 in bowl games mostly because the coaches didn't really put much emphasis on them. They looked a the games as almost a vacation for the players with an exhibition game. Hell, I think for some of the games the players found their own travel to the games. That's how irrelevant they were for the coaches.
On a side note, it's always fun to go back and look at these old schedules to see that major conf. teams were not afraid to play each other. Today, people are losing their shite because LSU was crazy enough to play USC at a neutral site this year. But in 1988 alone LSU played Texas A&M (SWC), Ohio State (Big 10) and Miami in addition to the SEC schedule and LSU STILL won the SEC that year (technically they tied with Auburn but LSU won the head-to-head game, so they can take that tie and shove it!)

I was at the game also. The night before the game, some SCe fools were running up and down the hallways of the Holiday Inn shouting Cockadoodledoo all night. When we got to the game some drunk Gamecock fan was crowing about what they were going to do to LSU. I told him I'll bet if the Tigers scored a couple of quick touchdowns that would shut him up. Then almost as quick as everyone could be seated it was 14-0. SCe never had a chance.

LSU (9-1-1) was the higher ranked team than South Carolina (8-3) that had lost to three of the only four ranked teams they had played that season. They had gotten some hype by upsetting Clemson late in the season, but LSU being given "little chance of winning" is BS.
No it is not. The media was all over SC and they were the Vegas favorite.

Went and got a haircut today, and the picture of that game's coin toss is hanging in his barber shop.

Still have the game on video tape. A very satisfying victory. One of LSU’s best bowl wins.
