Which I said. I expect a 14 and 6/7 type of season. He doesn't have to shoot as much and we don't need him as badly.

Underselling in the sense of only being a SEC 2nd teamer. (1) he has the preseason hype that generally correlates into guys being named to post season all conf. teams; (2) I think the league recognizes how good he is at PG. He doesn't have to score to dominate a game (see @ Arkansas last year) but he still can put up huge scoring numbers if needed. Also, despite all of the great talent on the team, if LSU needs one bucket to win, Waters is the guy taking the shot. He has that "it" when it comes to big moments. His overall scoring will probably be down. But when the game is on the line the ball will be in his hand to create the huge play.

quote:

I don't think I can disagree more. He's one of the most skilled forwards to come out in a long time, and he's developed a shot from NBA range. He doesn't have that freakish length or athletic jumping ability, but that dude is SMOOTH with the ball in his hands. Wade already said that he is the guy they will go through because either a) He isn't double teamed and LSU wins or b) he's doubled and he's such a tremendous passer it becomes 4v3 for LSU.

Reid was underrated coming out of HS because they put some of those 6'9 dunkers out there. Zion Williamson is a guy who will need to get acclimated to college because he played 2A basketball in South Carolina and is a physical freak, but is a crazy dunker. Reid can beat you off the dribble, from outside, in the post. I just think he's too skilled to only get 13

I don't think there is ANY question that Reid is a very skilled player. He's easily the top NBA prospect on this team. But when you're that much more skilled than most HS players, sometimes it's hard to transition to the college game where the talent gap and particularly the coaching gap is much narrower. I think there are going to be times where he is absolutely unstoppable. But I also think there will be times where he gets frustrated because he's going to be playing against some good, experienced, forwards in conf. play.

In NO WAY is he going to be a bust. But unlike last year where Reath benefited because LSU had no one else who could score in the post, this team has more options. Reid is a matchup nightmare. But, because of the diversity of talent his numbers may not be as big as they could be if he was one of the few legitimate scoring options.

Really strange, still not seeing a betting line for the game. There are games in which teams are favored by 29, but they don't have the LSU spread

t’s not just the talent that has me so excited. We have had talented teams before (although maybe not this deep). The thing that has me amped is for the first time in my lifetime we have a quality coach at the helm. Although Brown was a great recruiter, he was not a good coach. Brady was a great defensive coach but his offenses were pickup basketball. Trent and Johnny were just jokes.

Can’t wait to get into the PMAC tonight and watch Wade and the boys.

Yep, I agree. I was saying in another basketball thread that we finally have a guy who's as good of a coach as he is a recruiter. Takes me back to the glory days of LSU athletics back in the beginning of this century when Bertman and Saban ( ) were here. Basketball has never had that total package.

I listened to the podcast from the Cody and man it's got me pumped up. Definitely gonna be listening in on that every week. So ready for a game tonight.

Biggest things I want to see is how we defend ball screens cause that was a major problem last year, how much we use full court or 3/4 court press, how we rebound, and the rotation of players moving in and out!

Wade said in that interview that only one other team defends the ball screen like we will this season...extremely curious what we show. He also clearly made a huge emphasis on rebounding and contesting shots at the rim.

T-minus 5 1/2 hours!

I'm definitely intrigued as to how we do. It was bad last year defending ball screens. It almost always took us out of position in some way. I think it was the root of almost all our defensive woes last year so I was happy when I heard they were making some changes.

I normally am not for a basketball page different than the football one but the negativity out there makes me think about it....

Idk about you guys but this SEC hoops season is gonna be must watch. We got some elite teams in the league this season. MSU and LSU may sneak up on some people with how good we should be.
