Correct me if I am wrong. Had Slaughter kept running rather than stopping and ran into the 3rd baseman would it not have been obstruction on the 3rd baseman?

Why in hell would he stop running and tip toe to 3rd?

Not necessarily. He has a right to the baseline and base. He pulled up I think. Had he continued on he'd probably have caused a misplay.
