Give me an example where secretly and unilaterally altering the terms of a contract is ethical. And I'm not talking about your example of making notes in the margins or some crap. I mean changing material terms without the other party's knowledge.

When did that happen? Literally NONE of that happened.

The changes were

-not secret
-not unilateral
-not material

and

RATIFIED BY CHAVIS IN ANOTHER AGREEMENT A YEAR LATER!

i mean, did/does Chavis not have a copy of the agreement that he signed, showing exactly what he signed?

Yes. And that is different from what the LSU Board approved.
quote:

and what is the difference between:
“between 24 months to 36 months”

and “between the first day of the 36th month remaining to the last day of the 24th month remaining.”

is that a difference of a month, or is it no difference?
It is the difference of a month. Or at least it changes that month on either side from a grey area that can be disputed to one solidly in LSU's favor. Since LSU took the step of making the change without getting approval from Chavis, they probably lose out on any argument regarding the contested area.

You're kinda missing some context here. It is a hypothetical that derived from this thread.

Unless the memorandum that extended the agreement specifically repeated the new terms instead of simply saying "extending terms of the 2012 agreement by one year" then it wouldn't help at all. Even then, the change in terms would have to be acknowledged by Chavis, given that the contract was being passed off as an extension of what Chavis had signed previously.

As an outsider looking in, I can't understand why LSU didn't just pay those pennies and carry on with running their +100,000,000 dollar buisness.

Exactly a short form extension will not ratify some hidden prior change to the original contract. He will at least have to have seen it or it out in front of him.

Probably because he is too damn embarrassed to come up with an explanation for his shite show of a client.
Does Pax offer an "explanation for his shite show OP"?
Do you even read past headlines or is everything TLDR?

The article was later updated with a belated press release from LSU but I appreciate your concern.

Because Chavis is in the wrong, and he left us high and dry. We don't like him. I guess it's more the principle at this point.

I was one who was giving Alleva the benefit of the doubt on a lot of things particularly as it applied to the Miles situation. But something like this? It would not just be he 600K we owe Chavis if true....we are talking damages on top of this. Start thinking 1.8 million.

Probably the only way to keep the thread going at this point, considering the updates.

Sort of like when a campus rape charge is proved to be a lie, the argument then becomes, "Well that doesn't matter. IF [insert hypothetical] happened, this is what should be done."
