You don’t need to shoot the 3...and fortunately this year they aren’t jacking them up as much as last year. I would bet maybe 2 or 3 of the top 50 3-pt shooting teams have any shot at the title.

You kind of do.....once you get to a certain point teams will be able to game plan and shut down driving lanes/take away points in the paint and force us to shoot from the outside.

I think the bigger problem is settling for 3-pters ...but if teams want to leave our guards wide open..I think the percentage will go up.

Last year's team was a poor 3-pt. shooting team as was our 2006 Final Four team.
But all said and done I'd at least like to hit 6 or 7 a game instead of 3 or 4 which is our norm this year.

Five of top 10 teams in America are in the top 50 in 3pt %
Gonzaga 38.9% (11th)
SDSU 38.2% (17th)
Louisville 39.7% (6th)
Dayton 37.4 (27th)
Duke 36.4 (48th)
Oregon, creighton, Colorado, Arizona are other ranked teams in the top 50 in 3pt shooting
LSU is 293rd. 30.9%
They have to at least be around the 35 mark.

Good thing about 06 was we had a shot maker in Darrel Mitchell. Mays can be this team’s guy. They just need to shoot it adequately. Some of the looks like they are settling for are just awful (contested top of the arc off the bounce)

And we shot 32.4% during the season that we last went to the final four. I think our three point shooting is fine if we only take 10-15 a game. If LSU shoots more than that then they better be able to shoot them better than the 31% we are making now.

Surely you see the differences in this team compared to the 06’ team

It’s the reason we lost against Michigan St. in the tournament. I feel confident we can make it to the Sweet 16 again playing like we are, but I’m not confident beyond that. It can happen, but it will come down to matchups.
That being said, I feel like Days can be the player to keep defenses honest. He’s a much better shooter than he’s shown so far.

Not necessarily, Some of the best teams in the country cant shoot the 3.
WVU is 30.1% from 3, and is #7 in kenpom overall. They even suck from the FT line at 64.9% which is among worst in country.
Look at Auburn, they shoot a ton of 3's but arent good at it - same as us in fact. We both shoot the 2 about the same as well. We're actually pretty close to being the same teams mostly by percentages. They have a better defense though.
Shooting the 3 would be a bigger problem if we took more 3's from there.

Would love to still have Bigsby for another year

This team is built for the tourney. Having four guys that can light it up from 3 is great but one off night in an unfamiliar gym means the end of your season, but scoring in the paint and rebounding holds constant and wins games in March

The reason we lost to MSU is they were hot as shite and we didn’t have our head coach

Of course I know the defenses are vastly different. '06 was lock down. I was only getting at the point that there are more than 1 way to skin a cat. LSU has been dominant scoring the ball inside and getting their rebounds if they do in fact miss the inside shot.
To say they MUST do something to be successful that is anything different than that seems to be a bit of a reach.
I wish LSU shot 35% from three, but I don't think its necessary for this team to be a final 4 caliber team if they do the rest right. I'd say it's far more reasonable and likely to say LSU needs to cut the turnovers out than hit three's. At this point I'm not sure there's much LSU can do to improve the shooting besides shot selection, which is why I think they need to keep the shots to 10-15 three's per game and only take them when the perfect shot comes to the right person.

LSU shot 17-62 from 3 in the tournament(27%). Were lucky to get by Maryland in the ugly arse game tbh.
Michigan St didn’t get hot; they shot 39% as a team on the season & happened to hit 40% vs LSU that game.

The team didn't get hot but the two guys who scored 35 points for MSU were guys who did not score for them all season. But that's just basketball

Who happened to shoot 6-10 from 3 combined
38% & 37% respectively on the year for both
LSU needs more shooters!

One advantage of being a poor 3 pt shooting team is that our style of play translates well to March. With a lot of teams you hear that one bad shooting night will knock them but we do not depend on that. This is also why we play so well on the road, the wins might not be aesthetically or analytically pleasing, but it gets the job done. Cutting down on turnovers and improving defensively is more important than hitting 3s for this team IMO

Definitely wouldn't hurt, right now I think Marlon is our best 3 pt shooter at 45.5% (obviously small sample but hey it works), but we all know he isn't really a shooter.
