“2. Offensive sets & designed plays, Xs/Os if you will — it hasn’t been consistent but I have seen flashes of beautiful ball movement leading to good looks. With Wade we mostly just out-athleted teams / ran a lot of ISO / Waters making string music from fkn half court”

This is incorrect. McMahon runs the high ball screen with everyone standing at the 3pt line. He’ll also run the ball screen to the wing or an iso post up but that’s it. There is no secondary action or off ball movement at all. Wade ran a lot of different sets. He ran the high ball screens too but always had backside pin downs for shooters in case the initial action was stopped. He ran a ton of double horns sets with alot of variety out of those sets. Sometimes high low game, sometimes high post iso, sometimes a roll, pop option off of it. He ran some cross screen post ups too and a lot of double staggered screens for shooters.

How long will it take McMahon to even achieve half of what Wade did here? Will Wade achieve more at McNeese than McMahon will at LSU?

I could be wrong. I don’t analyze tape, just the feeling I get from watching live & I could be allowing bias to taint memory.
I would like to see him put it together here & am willing to give him a full 3rd year. I just want to see bball get back on track.
I hope McMahon can make that happen, but if not onto the next guy. Regardless I don’t think he loses his job this year.

His teams have come out the gate in conference play with consistently better defensive effort
That has been encouraging

This is just ridiculous.
His offenses at LSU have been terrible. LSU is currently ranked 127th in offensive efficiency (2nd to last in the SEC). That's coming off a season where they ranked 152nd in the nation (12th in SEC). To put that into a little bit of perspective the WORST offense Wade had in 5 years at LSU was 89th. And Wade only had Waters for two seasons. I bet it might surprise you to know LSU ranked in the top 5 in the nation in offensive efficiency in the two years AFTER Waters was no longer at LSU "making string music from fkn half court". That level of execution and production didn't just happen by rolling out the ball and letting guys play. LSU, while talented, wasn't talented enough to simply do that.
Just because you might think McMahon's offense looks "aesthetically pleasing" doesn't mean it is actually good or productive. In fact, all data points to it not being "good" at all. To put things in a little further perspective, only Trent Johnson had worse offenses than McMahon. Even Johnny Jones, in his final season, a year in which LSU went 2-16 in SEC play had an offense ranked nearly FIFTY spots better than where McMahon's current offense ranks. In no appreciable way has McMahon's offenses been anywhere close to Wade's. Hell, they aren't even better than Johnny's Jones' offenses. And he had a member of the goddamn band playing significant minutes on his team along with a bunch who guys who you probably forgot ever played for LSU.
Give him credit for the much improved defense. But his offenses have been awful. That's partly why a Georgia team who had 6 TOs in the first 10 minutes of the game and went 4-15 shooting during that same stretch was able to remain tied with LSU 10-10.
The sad thing is the defense has been much, much better compared to last year. But the offense is so bad that LSU struggles to create much, if any, separation to benefit from their good defensive play.

What’s so heartbreaking is that on the road against ATM the adjustments and offensive calls were excellent but ever since Vandy we haven’t seen any of that. We started in our normal high ball screen set, ATM played drop coverage and brought a corner defender as help to stop the screen roll action. We kept getting open corner 3s but couldn’t hit so he made the correct adjustment. He started bringing Wright over to fake a screen and roll to the play side wing then ran pop instead of roll action with the big. That pulled the drop coverage up, the extra help defender in and left a big alley for Wright on the ball reversal and he took over the game. It was a great coaching move but we haven’t done anything like that since. Thats what’s so frustrating.

Now he just needs to recruit.
Tonight was the catalyst towards that end.

Unfortunately there are still several sad sacks on here that still have Will Wade semen dripping from their mouths.
