You have to keep in mind that PK is not an LSU basketball fan so it stands to reason that he doesn’t care what the record is or how much we lose.

I'm not quite sure that's 100% true and I bet his being hired may well have had something to do with the number but even let's for the sake of this discussion say he was "handed" $10 million. I would counter if he had not he absolutely would have been part of raising it and if he didn't have to it's not because he could not it's because NC State values hoops and the HC does not have to be involved as he would at say a school that does not really GAF about basketball.
