Help me understand how that helps the team get to the playoffs?

I’m over the playoffs. The peach bowl in 2019 was horrifically boring to actually attend as was the SEC championship. The national championship was entertaining for about 20 minutes before we made Clemson hit the snooze button. Those games were super unsatisfying.

The regular season journey there as a fan was indescribable. Trading your actual exciting games for maybe some empty corporate playoff games? We are losing the plot of why we do this people…

If you just go by the numbers it would be -Number of Games it should be - Ole Miss, State and Alabama,
Based on Age Texas, Ole Miss and Bama.

Ole Miss is the only one that meets all categories Historically

For years when we only had 6 conference games we played Rice, Texas A&M, Tulane, and other Texas teams. It’s not that abnormal.

Exactly. People lost their minds. Would they want Florida’s schedule this year? Could possibly be the difference between winning a nc this year or not making the playoffs at all. We’d have a good shot of missing the playoffs with Florida’s schedule. We have a good chance of making the playoffs and competing for a NC with our current schedule. In the current landscape , you want the easiest path. The sec is brutal enough. Anyone who doesn’t see this is misguided or brain dead.

I hate it. Was expecting Arkansas or A&M, but didn't want both. We should be playing Florida!

If you don't see how those three give us a better chance of getting to the playoffs, then I don't know what to tell you...

I would much rather watch bad football all season just to have LSU sneak into the playoffs.

Thank God LSU didn't have to play Bama, UF and Auburn (and Texas) in 2019, or they might not have snuck in.

It's like you people just want mediocre football.

Really? I get that it is an easier path, but give me the better programs to play against.

I mean, it's not like Arky, Ole Miss and A&M are Nicholls, ULM and ULL...

Okay so for most of our history we haven’t played Kentucky every year. Thank you for making my point for me.

Not right now, but it has been like that at times.

You know permanent opponents are a reflection of traditional rivals--except in LSU's case.

A lot of 3 permanent rivals make sense. Who is surprised that Alabama, Texas & Tennessee get their way? The formula looks to be 2 of your most played and 1 for proximity (not history).

3 - Alabama, Tennessee & Texas - got as permanent opponents the 3 SEC schools they have played the most in their history.
2 - Everyone else will play 2 of their 3 most played SEC schools
1 - Arkansas (Texas), LSU (Ole Miss) & Vandy (Tennessee) - only get 1 of 3

Arkansas has played Texas A&M more than anybody else in the SEC and Arkansas is Texas A&M's 2nd most played rival behind Texas.

Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma is an oddball.

Our 3-most played SEC rivals are:
1. MS State
2. Ole Miss
3. Alabama

The 3 SEC schools where we rank as 1 of their 3 most played rival:
1. MS State
2. Ole Miss
3. Texas A&M

What do you mean? LSU beat all 4 in 2019 on the way to the Natty.

Exactly. It's part of what made the season so great - big games all through the season, and steamrolling through the playoffs.

So why are we scared now? Why do people want a weak schedule just to appear in the playoffs?

For historical and hatred reasons, I'll miss Bama, Florida, and Auburn. It's untenable for winning but it's much more interesting that Ole Miss, Arkansas, and A&M.

Well I hope the sport goes to a place where divisions are reinstated eventually and we can go back to the sec west division like we should be. That’s where I see this all heading. NFL model with SEC Big 10.

There won’t be a weak schedule. It will be 9 SEC games. We’ll just lose some of the historic and recent rivalries on an every year basis. It’s weird to not play MS State & Auburn.

I wonder if we keep playing a Power 4/5 weeks 1 or 2 as we transition to 9 SEC games.
