Don't we have some of the worst facilities in the country? and it's not like Louisiana has shite tons of swimming talent, right?
That being said, we did win the SEC when i was in school...

I don't know if the women have ever won the SEC. Men won once since 1987.
The point of facilities and recruiting is real. In 1980 when the pool was built, it hosted NCAAs and was among the best in the country. 35 years later, nothing has changed for the better. It has declined...fact.
LA (LSC) Swimming is bad. MS is worse. AR is worse. The breeding ground to recruit from is from Texas and SES swimming...it is hard to out-recruit national powers Auburn, Florida, Georgia in their backyards. Texas is a powerhouse and has been for decades...there is basically a Berlin Wall dividing LSU with good swimmers who are not leaving to swim at traditional powers.

FYI, the women's team is not ranked 36 out of 40. That is a projected score based on the seedings at the upcoming NCAA meet. They certainly have the talent to score much higher than that. As to their current ranking, they are 24th, according to College Swimming . www.collegeswimming.com/division/1/rankings/

I know we are 36th out of 40, but is it really that bad being 36th in the country? How many D1 teams are there total?
I think there are like 43 or something, but I'm sure the muses can correct me on that one.

"An unhealthy hatred toward the coaches"? There is nothing unhealthy about wanting any team of any college you have supported all your life to do well. Especially in the sport you have competed in all your life. There is no hatred toward anyone on that pool deck. It is just known that there is a better leader out there for this swim program. The team is doing great as far as LSU swimming goes. However, there could be a better head coach with better people skills than the one they have now. Everyone says the biggest problem is recruiting. Well, facilities aside, it's hard to get recruits when the head coach of your team is almost impossible to connect with on a social level.
That being said, I hope the Tigers do well at NCAAs!

There aren't enough rugby fans supporting them. I think lsu should hire a racquetball coach. That sounds as asinine as someone saying the swim coach needs to be replaced. If the ad doesn't invest in it of course nothing will change. Just quit bitching about it really.

Dude its just RUKiddings irrational hatred of the coach, don't worry about him. He starts one at least once a month. I credit him for his passion of a sport without much of a fan base but he is completely misguided. In a sport like swimming the only thing that matters is facilities. LSU has the worst facilities in the SEC. The only time LSU won a conference title as a team was when the pool was brand new in the 80s.

None of these issues will ever be agreed upon between swimmers and none swimmers. When you have a football team, baseball team, etc. like we have, its easy to overshadow a small sport like swimming. It can't hurt however to bring up a valid point about poor coaching when its out there. I will always pull for our teams no matter who is coaching, even if they are keeping the team from reaching their full potential. As a former swimmer myself, I love seeing the sport even be part of Tiger Rant. Hopefully this thread will bring swimming into the spotlight, even if it is a small one. I know there are a lot of other Louisiana swimmers and coaches out there thinking the same thing that RUKidding is saying. Me included.

I was a swimmer too, so my opinion isn't just a random tiger fan. Geyer is a great coach, that's why he gets his assistants get a lot of interest from top schools. Unfortunately he is hindered by a host of factors that every coach would have if they coached at LSU even Dave Durden and Greg troy. He does have the facilities and Louisiana high school and club swimmers are not nearly as competitive as other states. He is infinitely better than the 3 head LSU coaches before him. Don't take the Louisiana club parents and coaches seriously, its old hat them, they always get mad when their star swimmer isn't good enough to make the team.
Edit: Glad to have another tiger fan that is a former swimmer too!

My apologies to Tiger Fans for the negativity. Just trying to generate some interest in the lowest attended sport at LSU, by far. There was a 6 page thread on swimming during the SEC Championships a few weeks ago. 6 pages. On Swimming !!!! Swimming !!! Crazy.
USA Swimming Core Objectives - Promote the Sport, Achieve Competitive Success, and Build the Base
If it takes a little negativity to generate some interest in LSU Swimming, so be it. Just doing my part for the greater good.
As for Core Objective #2, our facility is not the best, so our recruiting is pretty much totally dependent on three things, the charisma, experience, and likability of the Head Swim Coach. In other words, here at LSU that's, strike one, strike two, strike three. Your outta there.
I'm not one to chant "Fire Alleva", but I do think the man deserves to be informed, so he can sift through the BS and do his job and bring some leadership to a floundering program.
NCAA Swimming Championships are about to start.

34th out of 46. Congratulations to the Lady Tigers. They moved up two spots from last year's 36th place finish.
As quoted by previous ranter's "Geyer is rewritting the record book", and who can forget, "Geyer is taking LSU Swimming to the Top". The reality is he has lead us to the bottom where we seem to be hovering after 5 years at the helm.
Every program, every year breaks school records, and sincere congratulations to those swimmers who do. They deserve and have earned it. But it terms of where our program is and where it is headed - "The numbers speak for themselves".
From Tigerdude12,
Tigerdude12,
FYI, the 24th ranking from College Swimming.com was only a subjective polling. As you can see the actual Final Results from the actual meet is 34th, which is pretty much right on the mark of the "projected score" ranking of 36th. And you said "they certainly have the talent to score much higher than that". You have to look past the hype and let the numbers speak for themselves. FYI.
