For sure., especially with the move to the 4-3. There are some pieces that were recruited for Dave Aranda’s defense.

I think if they land this grad transfer, that will allow more flexibility.

Especially adding Lee to the mix already.

I did read yesterday they have Ojulari at DE & not LB. He was one of those 3-4 tweeners. Doesn’t have the size for DE but they seem to be experimenting with him too.

I don't feel like getting analytical about size vs speed b/w 19 and 22 yo's

Is your point that Brooks should be a starting SS or FS on the depth chart?

Should he be given both run stopping and coverage responsibilities within 5-15 yards of the LOS?

Exactly what is it that you want?

I never said he should be starting so not sure where that comes from.

Just that after almost a year with the program, he still does not profile as a LB because he is still only 200lbs. And he seems to agree with that. Not even sure why there is a need to get defensive about that but that is the rant for you.

If he can’t cover, make him a box safety. There are plenty of them that can’t cover. If they feel they can grow him & coach him into a LB, they surely can give him some coaching tips on how to improve in coverage.

His point was that 190 pound guys can run around an OT in a pass rushing situation.

And there really isn’t a difference on the field between what he was doing and a DB “Blitz” when you show blitz.

Being a MLB involves more than that.

He's gonna get it when he sees Pelini calling defenses and using him like a missle to the ball. Stay patient grasshopper.

Deion Jones came to LSU as a 200 pound LB out of High School. Seems to have worked for him, 1st round draft pick that is excelling for the Falcons. It is up to him as an individual how he takes advantage of the situation or not.

What’s really the difference between a box safety and a LB?

Stevens is a glorified LB

You’re generally further from the LOS, play in space more, have extended coverage duties. And chances are you’re being blocked by a WR as opposed to an OL or FB in some cases

Monty and Mingo came in at the same size or lighter as 4-3 DEs

Ojulari will have to our on weight but he isn’t significantly smaller than a lot of freshmen DEs.

Mingo 209

Montgomery 240

Both redshirted

Mingo 237 rFr

Montgomery 245 rFr

Ojulari 218

Right in the middle of both but will be hard to play at that weight as a Fr

And O said he fits in really well and is kicking arse even though supposedly undersized (not 250). Some guys are studs even though they are lighter, smaller guys because they play with great leverage and technique. Obviously you worry about those guys in the run game, maybe he ends up a situational DE until he gains weight and plays every down, maybe Brooks does the same, only time will tell.

I do discuss things in an adult manner. Not referring to you or any one person in particular but sometimes it's best to just leave certain things alone.

I think we'll find out in time what O and Pelini have in store for Brooks and others and I certainly believe they are way more qualified to make talent/position assessments than we are.

We can engage in discussions but it's all speculation, it will be interesting to see the spring game and how these guys are utilized.

He will be on the field making plays is the main thing. Brooks is just too talented and too versatile to not have on the field.

Put him in the portal. Get onboard or get rolled over. There’s someone who would gladly play where the coaches want without bitching. Stop treating these guys like they are the only talented football players in the world.

I kinda hate this because they told him through this recruitment that he’d be a safety, if he’s this against the move then he shouldn’t be at LB.

It make sooo much more sense to move Stevens to LB
