I see your logic, and I buy into it. It's not a guarantee though, maybe 50/50 chance at best. Bama would have to show flaws against tenn, mizzou, and ark.

I don't think LSU is jumping anyone to be honest. They'll move up if someone above loses or when they win head-to-head. It seems like most pollsters are going to let it play out on the field. OU hasn't really played anyone and almost lost to Army. Clemson almost went down to Syracuse at home.

It's really not that far fetched, assuming LSU wins convincingly to that point. The bama game will be played the week after the initial playoff rankings. The committee has a track record of doing things like this, they HEAVILY reward big wins. They don't look at last year, or even pay that much attention to style points. LSU will have played and beaten three (at the time) top 10 teams and Bama none. The committee knows it will play out on the field, so they aren't really painting themselves into a corner.
In 2014 the commitee opened the rankings with undefeated MS State ranked number 1 and Ole Miss number 4, rewarding them for their wins to that point but knowing that there were still big games to play.

The committee will rank them #1 if undefeated, no chance in the polls they pass Bama though.

Very doubtful that LSU would be #1 before the Bama game. They would easily be #3 if they beat UGA, and maybe #2 if Ohio State has a bad game somewhere.
Besides, having Bama fat, dumb and happy at #1 and not knowing what hit them would be way more satisfying.
