Funny part is as percentages go, personal experience living in Lafayette, it’s the most vocal, obnoxious, “look at me” Cajun fans who are like this (again my experience living here for over 20 years) compared to about 2% of LSU fans I know. Seriously most LSU fans don’t care about the Ragin Cajuns.

To be fair, there’s literal newspaper articles of LSU administrators openly speaking out against the name change from SLI to USL and trying to use legislative arms to stop it. So yeah, LSU has had their hand in the cookie jar a few times. That’s not news.

Only one Louisiana school represented our state in the Men’s basketball ncaa tournament this year. Only one Louisiana school outside LSU has ever represented this state with consecutive football seasons ranked in the top 25. Both our softball and baseball programs regularly finish top 20 nationally in attendance. I’m not even going to discuss the most important thing, academics.
We have built our own success, it may never be on your level but when we win in anything just know it’s with 10x less resources and we don’t owe LSU anything.
Sorry for not falling in line.

No one should expect that and I doubt very few do. It’s that a sizable portion of your fan base hates LSU, even though there is no true competition. As I wrote earlier I had no dislike of ULL at all until I moved to Lafayette. The number of times I’ve had nasty comments from their fans at places like Pete’s or
Legends because I’m wearing a LSU shirt or heard comments at a ULL tailgate like the weekend will be perfect if LSU loses. That crap is common place with a decent sized segment of your fan base. To suggest otherwise is either delusional or an outright lie.

You have to excuse them. Not all of us are like that. But I’ll say this. When we have to constantly hear foolishness like “know your place” or have to deal with social media rants from a good number of LSU fans every time some media outlet calls us “Louisiana,” are you really surprised that our fans sometimes react that way?
Just in this thread, one of your fellow posters on here went all “F*ck ULL fans…” on the first page. Then another one accused our entire fan base of somehow thinking we are superior to LSU because our teams may have a more successful season every once in a blue moon (god forbid). Then, I get lectured that I don’t love this state if I put allegiance to my alma mater over LSU. And this all started from a quote by a LSU blogger who has constantly bashed our school because he couldn’t cut it there.
Again, I have no hate for the Tigers. But reciprocity matters.

I never had a problem with Lafayette. I even did some work down there for a while. Never said a bad word about ULL. I rooted for them when they weren't playing LSU.
That was until I stopped at a restaurant down there for dinner just driving through to NOLA. When I came out, my car (which had a lot of LSU magnets) had been keyed (over 6 foot long down the side).
So frick ULL and frick Lafayette. That's some pussy shite right there.

School allegiance is an important part of the fun of college sports. I'm a die hard LSU fan but I grew up in Acadiana. I don't find it difficult to pull for the Cajuns when we aren't playing them in any sport. I don't find the allegiance to UL amongst die hard fans odd - but it is still weird to see fans from Laffy walking around in Bama t-shirts.
