So Notre Dame sucked back then too?

It was the white hats and Lou Tepper's awesome "D" that took them down that night.

Dude I agree we need new leadership on D, but that doesn't mean we all need to just tank on Miles. With the success he has had here, I give him the benefit of the doubt for at least 3 more years.
Three more years???? Are you kidding? I can't tolerate another year like this one...three years will take the program right back down the tubes and all the progress made since Saban will go down the toilet.
Why would you give anyone "the benefit of the doubt" for 3 years? Past success should not buy anyone the benefit of the doubt for 3 years while the prgoram spirals downward.

Well for one, if you fire a coach less than 3 years after winning a National Title, good luck getting a better one to come here. Plus, the program CLEARLY is not spiraling downwards and wont be any time soon. Have you kept up with recruiting lately?? If he fixes the problems with the D coaches we will be fine.

I'm not gonna say the program is on a downward spiral, but lets look at the facts. We have not beaten 1 good team this year. This team has no leadership, no discipline, no pride, piss poor tackling, no chemistry, and it looks like they have given up. We should all be VERY ALARMED with what is going on.

I agree with the alarmed part. But we, as fans, have no control over what goes on within.

You think coaches are scared to follow Les Miles because everyone and every other fanbase has him pegged as an idiot and dumb and he does say and do things to give that merit. There are coaches who would come before the boat sinks and not be scared to replace this guy because they know how to coach!!!

That was the coldest I've ever been at a football game. I've been to a lot of cold games in tiger stadium in my life, but at that game, I actually had sleet sticking and building up on my slicker. That 25 mph wind coming across that stadium didn't help matters either.

Actually Notre Dame had a pretty good team that year. They came into Tiger stadium earlier that same year and kicked our arse. The Independence Bowl was a rematch game.

One thing people have to consider when discussing Miles' job security:
If you're one of those people that whine about not having good lower level seats, right now would be a fantastic time to look into cashing in and getting them. If LSU loses the next two remaining games including the bowl, and then does nothing about the defensive staff, you're looking at a fanbase real reluctant to invest into another $1,500 or so for two tickets next year. Because with times as hard as they are now, people are not going to want to spend $1,500 just to go and be pissed off and humiliated after. That's the good news for people looking for tickets and the bad news for the program. And then consider on top of that that LSU needs to sellout Tiger Stadium to pay for Miles' salary.

"This is ONE bad year"
I disagree. A bad year is when you lose more than you win. I think most of us expected a drop off this year. But things need to be fixed next year or we will be in trouble.

What made this year so bad for me is the defense. I kinda sympothize with the new qb's, but the "D" has gotten progressively worse. That's how it looked when Tepper was here. We all know how that turned out.

No, it hasn't been as bad as when Saban gave it up like a whore 620+ yards of Offense to Spurrier. "We all know how that turned out"

Didn't Skip make Les hire Pellini? Why can't LSU just make him hire new DCs now?
I was not a fan of the Miles hire when he got the job. The way he started his tenure at LSU with the terrible defensive performace against Arizona State and the loss to Tennessee seemed to affirm my feelings. Then Les and Pellini turned it around and got on a roll.
Last year, something happened to the defense after half time of the South Carolina game, and it has never been the same since. Spurrier highlighted a major flaw in last year's D with coverage of RBs out of the backfield. Since then the D has just gotten worse with every passing game. I'm presuming Miles didn't understand this. Its the only thing that explains why he promoted from within to keep the same system in place. That makes me question his vision as a coach and leader of teh LSU team.
If Miles wants to salvage this, he needs to get a new DC next week, after the ARK game. If ARK hangs 30+ on the Tigers, there'll be a complete meltdown.

First off, that's some serious insight, and to think about it and look back, it is 150% correct. Now, the issues we are facing.
Yes, I can absolutely agree that this year's rendition of the squad has no real leaders. Last year we had Flynn, Hester, Dorsey, Steltz, an entire wealth of them. You want to know why that team won a national championship last year, the leaders we had played a major role. They would NOT let their fellow man give up. The closest thing we've gotten to that this year was the Troy game. And, I look at Troy, and they aren't exactly a defensive powerhouse.
Now, that being said, do I think Les Miles is the man for the job? As of right now, absolutely. Do I think that there is major work to be done. The Co-DCs have absolutely have to go. Tackling seems to be a major issue issue, and if you watch Dumb & Dumber's special teams last year, TACKLING WAS A MAJOR ISSUE. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. I'll call it here, Miles dropped the ball. Right the ship.
However, I also believe as fans it's on us to take off our purple & gold glasses and look at this year objectively. If you thought that Jarrett Lee, what was supposed to be our 3rd string QB, was going to lead us to a 10 win season, I think you are a foolhardy fan. Not to mention, the conference schedule this year got to be much more than we could handle after Perrilloux's dismissal. Once again, I praise Coach Miles for the move. It was essential. Do we lack a true playmaker at QB now? Of course we do. However, I think Miles had to set a precedent. A precedent for self-righteous future recruits (hello Russell Shepherd). Sure, he's a great kid who's "outspoken", but wasn't that the M.O. on R.P.?
Bottom line, I believe Les has 2 more years to work, scot free. I'm also of the opinion that if this team makes a MARKED improvement next year, Les is safe.

All of the sudden we are in that shape right now. An Independence Bowl berth would be good for this team. Next year we may not be so lucky.

You sir, are an idiot. We have played in BCS bowls in 2 of Les' first 3 seasons. We were due for a down year with many departures defensively, including most of the secondary and the top defensive player in the nation.
How many teams would have done well this year with their 3rd and 4th string QBs playing? That's where Lee was in the spring (and Jefferson was not even there yet and would have been a redshirt if RP had been here)?
