yea he's been calling Carr a great coach since week 1. I figured it was to mend fences

he does get emotional near the middle of the clip
I think he became emotional when he realized that if he left for Michigan his days of motorboating Blondie would come to an end.

makes sense.... Les and the whole world had to know this was likely Carr's last year going into the season... that was pretty common speculation that he would not be at Michigan in 2008 regardless of how this year turned out... when they lost to App. St. and Oregon to start the year I'm sure Les knew he was in great shape at that point...
The thing is that many were a little surprised he announced right now and not at the end of the year.... he sites recruiting as the reason, but the average outsider would call bullshite on that... there are even more reasons NOT to quit like this before the year is done - mainly being that its not fair to the seniors who have a bowl game to play still and try to win...
Again, much speculation is that he retired after the Ohio St. loss because he knew that was it and he still had a way to catch Miles in a position where he would basically be unhirable for 7 weeks... that puts Les at a BIG disadvantage when you think about it and many believe that may have been what Carr was aiming to accomplish

There's no dought Miles wants the job, I just think its going to be one of those deals were the timing just is'nt right.

Its his dream job and it is open - which does not come along often... why would he let somebody else jump in there and take his dream job and risk that it could not be open for another 30 years... who knows, if Rich Rodriguez took it and started winning championships then he could be there until teh day he dies....
Les wouldn't pass up this opportunity... this has to be one of the most golden opportunities for a guy like him... think about it... he probably has trouble sleeping at night these days thiking about it

I think this goes all the way back to when Carr was given the job and not Miles.
Word is it has been a bad relationship ever since.

I want Les to stay. At the same time, if he isn't offered the job.....that's somewhat of a tragedy. Nobody deserves first dibs at that job more than Les, in my opinion.

Classic. He's in a tough spot, handling it the best way anyone can. I believe he is sincere and forthright. I think that is why coaches like coaching for him and players like playing for him.

God No

You must wonder why Michigan and Carr felt they needed to come forward at this point in the season with this big announcement. Why couldn't they wait until the season is over. This way it puts Miles and the entire LSU team in a very difficult position. Miles is attempting to keep a lid on the mess and LSU supporter need to assit him by supporting him and the Tigers.
Unless there is something that I can't see I simply think Michigan and Carr Suck!!! It's almost like they are doing everyting in their power to keep LSU out of the NC game.

I don’t think he is going any where. He already has a great job. Maybe going back to Michigan would be nice considering his history. I just don’t see him leaving. Maybe it would be hard to say no if they did come calling but I don’t think he would want to make that decision should they come calling. I think it would be hard to say no and I think that is what he would struggle with but I think he would in the end say no. I think there is a crack in the door but I just don’t think he would leave. I think he wanted to talk about Bo on this day but Carrs retirement kind of spoiled all of it. He seemed to me to be disappointed that Carr decided to announce on the 1 year anniversary of Bo's funeral. He seemed like he wanted to tell someone off for announcing that today but wasn’t going to expand on it in front of the media. I would think he wanted to say its pretty bad F&#king timing to announce that and down right disrespectful to Bo doing that on this day. I think he feels this should have been a day about Bo and the great man he was instead of talking about Carr and Michigan. It would seem to me his feelings for Bo are far greater than his feelings for Michigan. Then his inability to talk when he says "Will not do anything to hurt it" speaks volumes to me.
We shall see.....

Thanks for posting that.
I want him to stay too but if he goes at least he will do it with class not lies.

Three things:
1) A question: If you are UM, and really one of the best 5 jobs like everyone seems to think, and the most winning program in history, then why not call Carroll, Meyer, Schiano, Spurrier etc.. Why settle for the coach at Cincy, or Les, or whomever? I have been to Ann Arbor, and they can afford whatever they want. It seems to me that the list of 20 could have anybody in the country on it, except Jim Tressel.
2) I think it comes down to whether or not they offer Les. If they offer, he is gone. IMO - I read people for a living, and that was a guy who doesn't want to have to say goodbye, but who will for a chance to go home. The only shot of keeping him is if UM never offers.
3) I am in a bad mood today over all of this. Nothing has a greater potential to hijack this season, and here it is three games from the end. I know it can't be avoided, but man....bad timing, just like Les says in the clip.

I've always liked Les and I hope he stays. If he is offered the job and elects to take it, I understand and wish him luck.
That being said, as he mentioned in the press conference, the timing of this absolutely sucks for him. I can't imagine how he must be torn apart inside to have this come up when he is so close to achieving a national championship. And think about how it would suck if he didn't even get an offer!
And if Lloyd Carr timed it this way on purpose to hurt his chances on getting the job, then I cannot imagine how he can talk about integrity to anyone.
Go win us another MNC, Les, and stick around to go for more.
