How is this not an error in coaching???
Well, for one, the coaches can't play for the players.
For two, sure, it can be coaching, but it's the coaching of John Chavis, who this board has decided is only successful because "Miles leaves him alone."

and to give him about a 20 yard cushion on the 3rd one. Whomever made the prevent call screwed the pooch.
I have not had the time (nor the willpower) to re-watch the game yet, but a good friend of mine at the game insists it wasn't a "prevent."
I'm hoping to re-watch this week.

Those 3-to-5 plays came at key moments and were obviously bad decisions.
They did come at key moments but they weren't the ONLY KEY MOMENTS.
Even still it's still three to five decisions snuggled inside a larger, overwhelmingly successful game plan.
To me, it's a lot like looking at someone like LeBron, who plays marvelously for 46 minutes, racks up 48 points, a dozen boards, 8 assists, but his team is still down by 2. Then, he gets the final shot and misses and everyone says he sucks/choked/isn't clutch.
Ultimately, it's still one shot.
There's a lot of reasons LSU didn't win on Saturday, but I don't think those few calls were the biggest.

I think the failed trick plays, the warecat call, the prevent d at the end of both halves, and the decision not to go for it on 4th at the end were directly responsible for the loss. The reason is because the rest of the game we played pretty exceptionally.
Miles is to blame for the loss. He is also responsible for us even having a shot at winning. It goes both ways. Coach and QB are always gonna shoulder the most blame regardless. They are team leaders.

Mettenberger just turned in the best QB performance by any LSU QB probably since Russell was on campus.
The difference was that the coaches FINALLY put Mett is a position where he could succeed. They gave him 3 and sometimes 4 wideouts to throw to. He wasn't limited like he has been in the past. It's a point that Hangariff kept harping on week after week on his radio show, and Miles finally did it. It remains to be seen if it continues or if Miles goes back to his old ways and undermines any confidence that Mett gained.

The game was called very well and those shots arguably were not even necessary to take first of all, and if they were, they were not the right shot selections.

The fake FG should have been called off when Bama read it and stacked the line, and the Warecat should not have been attempted in such a muddled manner and without correctly lining up. Neither one fooled anybody.

It was nice to see him scanning the field. This could also be due to more confidence in the oline.

you don't think there were possibly reasons for this? or would you rather not think about it and chalk it up to gross negligence?

The kid has the skills. The coaches just have to trust him and do what they can to help him succeed, not hinder him.
The OL seems to be improving weekly. This is huge for us.

hmmm, never knew that a qb sneak was designed to fool the defense, learn something new every day

It was a stupid call. Just line up and run it down their throat. The execution was botched anyway, so it was doomed from the start.

I agree...but stating that "it didn't fool the defense" has nothing to do with that
