I think an SEC West title would justify it for their fans and admin, but that isn’t happening while Saban is breathing.

How many said that about O? If O can do it, Fisher is certainly capable.

Clay Travis is suggesting Joe Burrow might be O's Cam Newton

quote:

The year after Gene Chizik went 14-0 and won a national title with Cam Newton, Auburn went from 14-0 to 8-5, 4-4 in the SEC. The next season, year two after the national title, Chizik went 3-9, 0-8 in the SEC and was fired.

He really should just be fired and start over.

Ok. Are you paying his buyout, plus the staff’s plus the new contracts? Who’s coming after we fire a coach a year removed from a title?

Look, I’ve never been O’s biggest fan. I didn’t want him to be the hire. I gave him a lot of credit last year and he deserves 99% of the shite he’s getting this year. I’m just being practical.

It’s easy for you guys to spend other people’s money, but most businesses have lost revenue this year, and some suddenly found themselves under water with little to no money coming in. Unless a multi-millionaire alum with his hair on fire volunteers the cash, the chances of what you are talking about are so remote that it’s barely worth considering.

If you are thinking Title IX is the answer, maybe it saves us some money on O’s buyout if Woodward wants to use that as an excuse to part ways. That is the only potential good scenario. It’s the only way the backlash isn’t so bad that getting rid of O doesn’t matter.

But if the administration has to fire him with cause because the investigation turns up proof he was involved in covering things up, then we’re in a shite storm and NO ONE we would want is coming here any time soon. In fact, why would anyone worth a damn come here until the investigation is 100% complete and consequences known and the NCAA has (hopefully) signed off on our scholarship restrictions as an adequate penalty? Who would want to walk in the door with all of that uncertainty?

If you don’t want to suck for the time being, staff improvements are the only viable option. It may not be what people want, but that’s the only realistic path forward for now.

Only if Jimbo dumps his offense and brings in a modern OC to change things up. They will not win a title with that scheme. We wouldn’t have won it all with his scheme, even with last year’s talent.

Agree with this. Kirby has the same problem.

I would take Urban in a heartbeat but scared he would leave after a couple years. He doesn’t seem like he really wants to coach anymore. We need someone relatively young and VERY hungry.

That's not a bad thing though. He establishes a very successful program and leaves it to one of his great coordinators like Ryan Day at OSU currently.

Please. You love to fall back on that weak shite.

Have you seen Jimbo modernize his own offense or let go control of it at FSU or A&M? I said what I said because he’s a better version of Les Miles, but he’s just as stubborn. I don’t believe he will ever do it, so why entertain the notion? And if he won’t, then he’s not beating Bama.

Kiffin has a better shot at teaching the master than Jimbo does because he runs a scheme that can get the job done.

It's exactly what you did though. You went from never going to happen while Saban is coaching to a different claim.

Like when you try and say you didn’t say coach O would never lead LSU to the CFB playoff?

He’s never going to change, so it’s never going to happen. I would put cash on it today.

The Kirby that can never get over the hump that is Alabama? That got beat by back up QBs 2 times in championship games? That constantly gets out coached when facing teams with similar talent levels?

O had leverage at the time, coming off the best season in history most any AD would have given the coach the keys. Woody and most of us bought the one team heartbeat culture as the reason for 2019. We were wrong.
this. what's Woodward gonna do, tell Orgeron he can't bring in the guys he wants to bring in?

also, didnt orgeron deserve that extension based on 2019? every coach that has won a title in recent years has gotten an extension and raise for winning the title. Orgeron is no different.

woodward hasn't done much wrong here, as Orgeron held the trump cards in each situation after 2019.
