Mediocre seniors are not going to give you a contender

If they have talented players like Turner, Stringer and hopefully O'Bryant around them a mediocre player who plays his role well can help a team be a contender.
Is there no concession that sometimes college baskeball players can improve and develop over time?
Look, I know I'm debating with some folks who have given up on Trent and just don't have the patience for this. I understand.
Believe me this frustrates no one more than me. I go in that morgue of an arena and watch us play crappy games against crappy teams and it's been more of that than good times sinced Dale's last 4 years, and I was going since long before that.
I just have a bit more hope and belief in Trent than some of you that's all.
I hope you doubters are all wrong...and not because I want to be right and say I told you so...it's cause I want my basketball program to succeed.

You always need role players on a basketball team however, you do not have a complete roster full of mediocre players.
3 shitty seasons in a row would be enough for alarm.
It looks like the real problem is TJ's recruiting. Based on the current situation, there does not appear to be strong enough talent to have a good team (building a "foundation" or not)

Sounds like you're sounding the alarm after less than 1.5 seasons.

what's that have to do with anything? You never saw WWII but I'm sure you can agree that Hitler was a bad guy.

Don't call LSU Basketball Fans the "Dumbest fans in America", when you were 10 frickin' years old in 1995. Unless you are speaking in terms of "Fans" your own age.
You have ZERO point of reference.

I see what is said on here all the time by LSU fans about basketball and I go to the games so I think I can make a fair assessment. How many basketball games have you been to thus far?

Assessment of what exactly? 2,000-2,500 people..maybe in what was once "Deaf Dome"?

like I said, I can read what is said here as well. That LSU has no talent, that Trent can't coach blah blah blah. Its really retarded. Why U mad tho?

I am. I'm pissed at a few posters here. There's one guy who was arguing with me and Shu and pointing out all the defieciencies, but when I asked him if he'd seen the team play this year he said "no." That cracked me up and pissed me off.
Patience is a virtue and we have to exercise it for two more years. TJ will get to play out his contract and then will be re-evaluated. Support this team, and they may surprise you before all is said and done.

Not totally. Just disappointed that after several full recruiting seasons, we do not seem to have enough talent to put 5 capable kids on the court.
Remember - this is Basketball not football. When you are unable to sign any members of the Top 75 players in your 1st 3 years, you are not going to have a very good team.
The high point of TJ's recruiting was Matt Derenbecker at #77 by Scout and next year #25 in Bryant.
Sorry but we are not talking about even getting close to the one and done kids. TJ's top recruits in 4 seasons will be # 25 and # 77. And right now #77 looks like an ongoing project.

You have to know what he is practicing to see the results in a game. What is he working on?
You recruit players that have developed bad habits in high school. You first have to develope new fundamentals that not only will get rid of bad habit but teach the correct way of doing it.
Also, you have to compete with the pros. Players watch the pros and try to dupilicate the way they do things which is not right for them, thus picking up again bad habits.
It's hard to do this because who are you as a coach. They are pros. I will do it their way.
If a coach can once win the confidence in the players, then and only then will they start doing what he is teaching.
Example. Teach a play. It works. Confidence builder. But, you teach plays and sets and they don't score and get confused in a game, they don't have confidence in you.
As you can see, this is only a few of the many things that a coach has to do to get a group of 6-9 guys to play together and win.....it ain't easy.
And it does take time.....

Rankings don't mean everything just look at Barnes at UNC a pre season AA who hasn't done anything yet

Brady had exactly one "one and done" kid in his career and we sucked dick the year the kid was on the team.

You're certainly not helping the average. Oh, but you proclaim yourself a genius, right? Do you jerk off to pictures of yourself?

Trent Johnson's biggest problem is that he isn't an exciting person. If he had more of a personality than a tree, he might get a pass. But, when your team is sucking it up at the point of the season where they are playing against the weakest competition they'll face all year, people start to wonder. Especially when your coach has no swagga.
Plus, college basketball has changed drastically. A team can be the worst team in the country one year, have a good recruiting class, and then all of a sudden win their conference and be a Final Four team.
I'm not sure that trying to build a sustainable program is the way to go at LSU. It might be better to just try to build a SEC Championship team every 2-3 years, and deal with the mess during the in between years.
That said, I really do hope that Trent is successful. I just don't think that LSU has what it takes to be a big time basketball program.
