I'm with the majority. It has to be coach O.

I'd first try to see if any of the programs that just fired their staff doesnnt (didnt) have a good DC and the problem was a bad offense or bad Head Coach.

I would look at Miami, South Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa State, Syracuse. I mean ONE of them must have had a good DC who is now out of work.

What about the former East Carolina head coach? Former DC. Yeah he just got hired at Virginia, so what, steal him away. And if you can't find out who his DC was this year, didn't they win 9 games? (Dumb firing by the Pirates!)

Another name

Former DC at Florida, Kent State, South Carolina (co DC last year). Highly regarded apparently by Bob Stoops and Steve Spurrier. Salary was 750,000 which shows you how highly regarded he was by USC.

Our Adminstration just made a complete arse of themselves for the whole world to see a month ago

No established coordinator is coming into this situation on either side of the ball

Look I love Coach O as much as anyone but why in the world would people want to promote someone that has never been a DC before?

It's ludicrous to me.

Everyone has to start somewhere to get there.

And yet he's been a head coach on multiple occasions.

Look, I love O as DL and recruiting coach. He's PERFECT for that role.

When it comes to implementing and executing a complicated defensive scheme in the SEC West, LSU needs to get a top of the line DC with tons of experience in the role.

Clancy Pendergast, Bob Shoop, etc.

We aren't the right platform to see whether or not Orgeron could be a good DC. We need someone we know ALREADY IS.

You're in the minority, but I completely agree with you. O is great in his role as recruiter and DL coach. However, he has never had any success as a DC in nearly 30 years of being a college football coach. Steel wasn't necessarily great this year, but I think this season showed just how important the role of DC is at LSU in light of the fact that LSU has struggled mightily on offense at times. It's the one coaching position LSU can't afford to be wrong at. Their offensive approach won't allow them to overcome horrible defensive play very often.

This.....is Brother Oliver still alive? I think LSU is the only SEC school he hasn't been a DC at?

From what I understand, he is not really an X's and O's guy. I don't think he has a desire to be a DC. I believe the only other job he would leave for is a head coaching job.

Don't forget we already have an experienced Defensive Coordinator on the staff -- Bradley Dale Peveto.

Maybe the Malleveto problems were more on Mallory than him.

Dave Aranda.....
he’s turned UW’s defense into one of the best units in the country during his 3rd year on the job.

The Badgers rank:

No. 1 nationally in scoring defense
No. 3 in total defense
No. 4 in rushing defense
No. 6 in passing defense.
