I had an SEC-caliber arm, and won...championships...in the SEC...oh, nevermind.

I'd say a SEC QB should be able to throw over 40 yards. Go read the TigerRag etc., weekly reports. It stated that after watching practice, its apparent that Hatch's maximum passing distance is 40 yards. I know a QB won't have to throw that many passes over 40 yds, but it shows the guy definitely has a weak arm. Mauck HAD an SEC caliber arm, in my opinion. He wasn't the best qb, but could make all the throws necessary. Hatch's videos show he does NOT have much zip on his ball.

dude i've seen video of him throwing it 50 yards in which he hit a reciever in stride. granted it wasn't a frozon rope like russell but he looks good to me when he throws the ball. here is the bottom line can hatch direct this offense with efficient and can he be a leader who voice will be one of a leader in the huddle. i'll take a heady hard nose qb right now above all else

According to your definition of what an "SEC calliber arm" is, Flynn had nothing close to that. If he threw the ball over 40 yards last season, he had to take a few steps into the throw to get the velocity on it.

Not every single qb LSU has will have the arm strength that Jamarcus had, sorry. And to be honest, it's not necessary to succeed. It helps, but is not necessary.

It doesn't matter who we start. LSU's fans will immediately demand someone else at that kid's first mistake.

I've seen this situation repeat itself many times in the past. I have little confidence in LSU's fans that they will have patience with these quarterbacks. They will be quick to judge and quick to condemn, as usual. I could be wrong, but... I don't think so.

Because of message board chatter, Hatch gets no respect and therefore many around here don't want him as a starter. Maybe he did not have enough stars when coming out of high school or something.

All I know is that our OC has recruited this kid twice. The first time was to try to get him to play at pass happy BYU.

I want whoever gives us the best chance to win to start. Miles sees these guys more than me, I'll trust his choice.

last year I was one of the dumb asses who early in the season was calling for kieland or scott to start over hester. I will not be that type of ranter again.

Trust in the hat.

I'm not looking nor do I hope anyone is looking for Hatch to fail. I just think the consensus is that a guy who played for Harvard and had to walk on to LSU probably isn't good enough to excel. If he succeeds, it would be a great story, but the odds aren't in his favor. The fact that Lee can't clearly beat him out concerns me as well. Either Hatch is beating extremely unfavorable odds, are we really don't have a capable QB on campus which leans me towards grooming and taking bumps with Jefferson as a true freshman to be better in the long run.

I'm the opposite of that. I always route for the little guy to suceed. If he makes starter good luck to him.
