Oregon's rebuilt offensive line
quote:
Oregon 48 Tenn 13......... Did you forget about that one? In that game that SEC d-line actually was "begging" Oregons offense for a breather. One of those SEC d-linemen actually told an Oregon o-lineman that if Oregon kept that pace he was going to puke on the field.......
You do realize that Tenn had no depth and the pace of Oregon wore them out in the second half. I believe it was tied at half-time, so dont make it out like it was a complete beat down. Tenn had some talent, but just no depth...against a type of offense like oregon, it was just a matter of time. However, LSU has depth....and are better than the DLine of Tenn.....LSU wins this game 28-16.
You make my point for me. The guy was trying to make it sound like the SEC was full of Farleys. Tenn had some talent, but they had no depth and they weren't well conditioned.
I continue to agree that LSU is a much different animal, much better than a Tenn for example. Sometimes posters try and sell the SEC as dominate top to bottom. I have total respect for LSU, the fans, and the talent, just don't tell me the Vandy's, and KY jellies of the world are powerhouse defenses. I'll give total respect to the Auburn (last year), Bama and LSU teams no problem at all in that area.
I'll stick with my Oregon 21 LSU 18 score. This is going to be low scoring and close. LSU has a great defense and an offense that I'm just not sure about when it comes to throwing the ball. I suspect timing on passes could be an issue with only one full week as the #1 QB for Lee.

Agreed. But, center is much harder to play as a frosh than DT.
Can we also agree on that?

Grasu did redshirt last year, so we aren't talking about a true frosh. However, I do agree that DT is easier. Of course, Hamani Stevens was set to start in front of Holmes as a redshirt frosh but went on his mission. Holmes was not exactly the type of center we're used to. Max Unger and Adam Snyder are the type of centers that Greatwood has developed (starter in the NFL) and Grasu will be along those lines.
Grasu also played in the same offense in high school in the toughest league in California. He is mentally much further ahead considering he beat out redshirt sophmore Armstrong and the guy back from his mission that was in line to start in front of Holmes. Likewise, redshirt junior, York has been taking snaps at center his entire time at Oregon. He is the real deal.

Tennessee had any depth at all they probably would have won that game. They were starting an insane amount of freshman and sophomores and that really showed in the 2nd half of a few games.
That game was 13-13 at half and they enjoyed a long weather break.
That's right, I forgot that they had an hour weather break in the first quarter with Tenn up 6-3. How much of a breather should a team need?

When your starting lineup is predominantly freshman, you need a very long one

Well, that should have got him ready.

UO's center is a redshirt freshman who will be taking his FIRST live snaps in this game.
He's also the most athletic of them all. If he can get his snap right then he will be a step up.

you tell me. 4 new starters on the O-line and a freshman taking his first snaps at center. Think before you ask a question.
This is incorrect. Not the center part. Thats true.

Is it not the same team that played LSU at home?
