The only draw back is that it hurts draft stock. So that means we wont get the super profile backs out of high school because we never really have first round running backs like USC.
USC doesn't really have 1st round RBs. outside of Bush, I can't think of one in recent memory. if anything's hurt draft stock of our RBs, it's been injuries, not the way they've been used (SFP, stay outta this, lol).
our system has given guys a chance to come in, compete, and put up numbers if you get to be that #1 guy. if you can do that, stay relatively injury free, and have good measurables, you should be ok come draft time.

It's not just LSU, it's a movement in football in general. There are only 6-7 feature backs in the NFL now. Everyone runs a platoon to keep their backs healthy throughout the season.

I think that Les knows what he is doing with this one and I like there philosophy on the running game
One thing about Miles, is that the running game has been very consistent under him. We don't have flashy backs, instead we have tough backs that are a 3-4 yard guarantee. There have been some screw ups with the multi RB scheme (07 Kentucky) but for the most part, the running game has been the strength of the offense. Even when Crowton was trying to implement a crazy version of the spread passing option running offense - it was the running game that still carried LSU.

not to pick nits, but Toe led the team in rushing in 00 as a freshman. Davis was more of the feature guy in 02
You're right, Toe left as a Jr. Was DD at LSU in '99, a year before Toe?

yeah, DD backed Mealey in 99 (behind maybe a worse OL than 09). Toe was redshirting, he had a knee injury.
also, Faulk and Cecil didn't split much time, since in Cecils 5 or so career games Faulk was hurt for 2 of em, and Cecil went down early in the last 1. oh what coulda been in 98 (remembering all 3 guys on a magazine cover).

I don't really see your point...
2007 - Jacob Hester was 1000 yard rusher and # 1 back
2008 - Charles Scott was 1000 yard rusher and # 1 back
2010 - Stevan Ridley was 1000 yard rusher and # 1 back
Back when Kevin Faulk was playin (favorite LSU player of all-time for me, I was 10 year old kid in awe watching KF during his time) the stable of RB's was not as full as it is now, and we just were not as good a team in general. I do beleive if another RB comes around that is that much better than everyone else he will be given the lion's share of the workload
