WaveHog,
There are mostly really good posters on here and a few idiots. Don't argue with the idiots wearing P&G glasses. I am an LSU fan (and double graduate) who is going to take Arkansas and the points (3.5).
Although Petrino pulled a "Saban" with the Falcons, he's in CFB where he belongs.
Petrino>>>>>>>Miles.
If LSU looks bad tomorrow (as I expect) then the players have laid down on the coaches.
We'll see.

Do what? In the 2 seasons before he got there Arkansas won the West and played in the Cap 1 Bowl, and beat the eventual national champs and played in the Cotton. I just don't see how they were some program in shambles before he came in and promptly went 5-7(2-6).
The Cap1, LSU-beating, West winning team from 2 years prior was completely gone. Our offense was comprised of Casey dick, a RB with only a few touches, and a WR corp with no experience with a passing game. The defense was in even worse shape. The team Petrino inherited was totally different than the one you're talking about (Monk, Jones, McFadden were all gone). There's a reason Petrino played more freshmen than any other team in the NCAA.
On top of that, look at recruiting rankings for the 3 years before Petrino came in. Pretty bad.

Chavis has coached up the defense:
2008 Scoring Defense (LSU-56th)
2009 Scoring Defense (LSU-8th)

On defense, they have a little way to go.....
giving up 408 yards a game is more than a little way to go: 95th in Total Defense
they are as bad defensively as LSU is offensively!

and on top of that, your D's strength is against the pass. this is why i say your defense matches up well against arkansas. the only reason you should maybe be a little worried is because y'all don't normally blitz a whole lot, which could give mallett time to throw.

just to be clear, the year Arky won the west and went to the Cap 1 Bowl, they lost to LSU. They in turn beat LSU and went to the Cotton the next year.

yeah, i know. and those two teams shared major players - namely Monk, McFadden (Heisman candidate both years), and Jones. All of them were gone when Petrino came in, so it's a little unfair to look at the accomplishments of the '06 and '07 team and automatically assume Petrino had much to work with in '08.

This is what concerns me. Our D-Line couldn't put pressure on a high school team and we don't blitz much.
Chavis has improved our defense quite a bit. However, my concern is that we still give up a lot of yards, which limits our offensive opportunities. With our offense, we need all the opportunities we can get.

yeah, no doubt the cupboard was bare with Petrino got to Ark. Nutt didn't leaven much to work with and may have bolted knowing it was going to be rough the next year.

Petrino can't be that great - after all Arkansas is 7-4 - will be 7-5 after tomorrow night

We didn't blitz much versus UF, 'Bama, and Ole Miss. Every other game, we blitzed a decent amount.

Has nothing to do with Miles. Petrino will prove to be a phony.

Just seems to be a rather bold statement by Petrino. However, given LSU's recent problems, I might be rather confident if they were my opponent.
Could it be that with Petrino's very young team he is attempting to show them that he believes in them, rather than taking a swipe at LSU?
I have zero doubt that CBP knows (whether he says it or not) that LSU is quite capable of winning a night game in Death Valley as they have on almost every occasion.

That's just as likely as any other explanation that's been put forth. However, us LSU fans have been very defensive the past couple of years, so you'll forgive us for this, right?

Shreveport has really nice weather in late December..It won't be a long ride for you either!

Unless an LSU loss benefits my Razorbacks in some way I always pull for your Tigers (like last weekend) when Les Miles "broke my heart in Oxfart"
There's no need for forgiveness as I would be a little touchy as well if my favorite team had received the bad press your Tigers had heaped upon them this entire week, as commentators and know nothings piled on!

LSU is tied at next to last in the SEC for sacks. That makes me think they're not getting a ton of pressure and use limited blitzes, though I haven't seen every game.
