The main reason our protection was so good is because we didn't give that dline time to exploit our young offensive front. The WORST thing we could've done is attempt multiple 5-step drops and/or play action bombs.
So you're saying that the coaching staff came up with a good game plan and stuck with it? After reading the Rant last week, I would have thought this impossible.

Hell after last week even I thought it was impossible but it seems like Les has a knack for showing us exactly why he's in charge just when we start to doubt him.

Agree with Max. Hope that the OL lineup remains in place

Positive:
-Defense as usual(with exception of 1 or 2 bust in redzone)
-jeremy hill
- O-Line played the best they have all season. Hopefully Miles will stay with this line up since it is the only one that has really worked so far this year.
-better execution overall not many drive killing penalties or mistakes
-play calling was more balanced and saw the warecat package some.
- receivers made some of the plays they needed to make to keep defense honest.
negatives:
- redzone playcalling: I understand Les not wanting to risk a turn over in the red zone particularly against that team(can understand somewhat), but you cannot hide your QB in this conference. We ran the ball well on S. Carolina until we got to the redzone and they new les would not pass the ball. The fade with one tight end(saw no receivers anywhere) was just not likely to work, as we don't really have TE that are great pass catchers. In certain situations I wish he would be a lot more aggressive(not careless).
-seems like Hilliard is constantly looking for the big play every touch. He almost had a first down on one drive, but reversed at the end trying to make the big play and lost 3-5 yards, which made us have to punt. Great running back glad he lost weight and got fast, but hope he gets back to his power running and those plays will develop for him naturally instead of forcing it.
-Wright dropped a long one that hit him in the arm/chest area, and one went through Beckham's hands when he jumped to catch it(defender barely got a finger on the ball on wright's drop, and Beckham just wasn't able to catch the pass although he got two hands on it). Passes were not neccessarily perfect(particularly Beckham's drop),but without a doubt catchable. If you can get two hands on it you have to catch those most of the time.
Overall great entertaining game and win by the Tigers.

BIG negative was Wing. His punting has been inconsistent all year...
I would have to say that Wing is the biggest surprise from last year for me. How does someone regress so much? Especially when it comes to kicking the ball? Last year, I seem to remember that through 6 games or so, opposing teams had like 10-20 punt return yards on us and Wing was consistantly pinning them inside the 20. Last night, he kicked a 10 yard punt into the stands. He needs to get it together!

If Landry continues running his route instead of trying to back peddle, then he catches the ball in stride for the TD... FACT

Can't really fault Wright for that one. The ball was deflected by the DB just before it got to him ... pretty hard to catch the ball when it changes direction on you at the last second. Mett also got hit on the play, preventing him from following through on the pass ... otherwise it probably hits Wright in stride for a possible TD.

No, he ran behind the defense, was wide open and turned around to catch the football, but the ball was thrown over his head.
It wasn't a perfect pass and may not have been catchable anyway, but Landry didn't finish the route well

+++positive: noise level and Tiger Stadium rocked.

Our punting has not been reliable....quite a few shank punts...at some point it may cost the team big time.

Wright would have taken a knee to catch it

Beckham won't catch because he thinks he is going to win the heisman on every play and is too busy to make time for that silly ball.

-Lamin Barrow is a cross between Karnell Hatcher and Scott Shanle. Just bite the bullet and play Debo Jones now, he can't be any worse.
quote:
-Kenny Hilliard got SOFT. Runs straight up and at the first sign of contact just turns his back to the defender and lets himself get tackled. -Brad Wing apparently spent the offseason practicing his heisman acceptance speeches with Odell Beckham. Jamie Keene needs to get a shot soon if this keeps up.
Your a funny guy...

Our passing game remains a negative, but not as much as it had been. Question: was Landry a WR in high school, or "best athlete" QB who moved? It sure seems like he and Mettenberger are having a tough time hooking up.
Mettenberger remains the primary weak link on offense; he threw basically a pick-6, he never gave the receiver a chance on the endzone fade route. But he's getting better, and whenever he gets to "average", the other defense will have to back off the line more. And then we'll be unbeatable, again

Landry did the same thing against Towson, and Mett told him to keep running

It actually is more likely to happen when you call quick passes and two-step drops.

what'd loston do that was so awesome other than get burned on a TD again and spear a wr that was already out of bounds without the ball?

all Landry had to do was keep running and it was td, he slowed down to try and make a circus catch
He looked like he got turned around and lost his balance on that play and flat tripped on his own on another. Both throws were bad though. Mett was not sharp on his touch throws last night.

There was nothing wrong with the pass to Landry. He got crossed up looking for the ball. His jump for the ball was 1.24 inches - he needs to run the route that was designed for that play. Mett has to put it high where only Landry can make the catch. That is where he put it. Run the right route next time or take a seat.
These guys need to have one priority - catch and secure the ball. If something good comes after that, fine. But, don't screw up a play because you want some highlights on SportsCenter.
