but RP still came in because he added a little
RP came in because he was one of the highest recruited QBs we have ever signed, plus he was being groomed for the following season (oh well). And like you say, he certainly offered something different. But I think it was more of the former as to why we saw more of him.

Phillip Sims could have done it actually. But bringing in an actual QB can limit the effectiveness of a wildcat pass because its not something that is a shock to the defense if there is an actual QB back there
True... i guess that was a bad example but phillip simms is certainly not the runner randall is, but with randall running a wildcat offense they would have to expect run first but wont be able to bring the house (as it looked like LSU alsmost did on that play) but if LSU runs that same type play the receiver would probably not be as wide open as the bama receiver was but would have one on one coverage and randall should easily be able to make that throw

Mett plays 90% of snaps with Randall getting 10%.
Rivers is the same exact kind of QB Mett is except younger, less experience, and by all accounts not as good. No reason to play him other than in junk time to get him experience.
Randall is going to surprise so many Tiger fans next year and in the following years. He is a sensational QB talent, not just athlete. I know that 95% of Tiger fans have no idea who he is unless they follow recruiting closely or hang out on message boards a whole lot.

Randall is a fricking beast. Cant wait to see what he can do. The 90/10 scenario at QB with Mett and Randall would be epic.

Mett plays all snaps next year, except garbage time when you might see Rivers or Randall. It's Mett's team next year until he gets hurt or blows it which he won't.

Like TheCaterpillar is saying, people are under estimating Randall BIG time. Dude is legit. He is a future starter at LSU.

I'm calling it:
Mett plays lights out next year and goes pro. He's got all the physical tools and next year will have some serious weapons at his disposal and a great D to back him up.
Then in 2013 Randall era begins with Rivers getting 10% of his snaps.

shite, I'd take it. Mett goes off next year and then Randall takes over for the next 3 years.

Are you suggesting that in '07 it wasn't Flynn's team? It can still be Mett's team with Randall playing a few plays here and there.

If Mett is good enough, he will more than likely play 90+% of the time. We've played multiple QBs from 2008-present because our QBs haven't been very good.

This past Bama game makes a compelling argument for the having a running quarterback/option back-up plan. If we can't run it up the middle on an Alabama, having the QB run with an extra blocker makes a lot of sense.
I hope we see a lot of Randall.

Mett?

Number 10 has not lived up to the hype. It appears he lacks heart for the tough plays. He does not need to touch the ball ever play

I think we will finally have our "Peyton Manning" in Mett
so we'll never win the west becuase he'll choke in big games?

No, he really wasn't.
Randall has a very strong arm.

the reason we are seeing a two QB system the last couple of years is because neither has really separated himself from the other in ability. If Mett is all that he is expected to be we won't see a two QB system the next couple of years. We may see a two QB system again after Mett graduates with Rivers and Randal.

No offense to some of the posters on this board, but there will be no other QB on the field unless Mett gets hurt or we are up big. Mett is THAT good, and anyone who has seen him at practice, scrimmages, etc knows it. He makes JJ and Lee look like softball players if he were a major leaguer.

but waaaaayyyyy better passer
um, I coached against Sheperd in High School and Luck, Shep could throw a damn football, it is a tragedy that he hasnt played qb the last two years with what with what we had to watch for an offense. Shep could not make the 35-45 yard throw on a line, he left too much loft on it, that was his only issue as a passer. He could throw about 50-55 yds in the air on the run no problem, he did it against us twice...his max throw, from what I remember in his warm-ups was at 60. Considering how many throws we make to a deep post over the middle, its the only reason )besides his height) that I can think of why he didnt play qb. He was also a honor student, and Ive spoken with him twice, he's no dummy...I just wish we could have seen him at QB and put this stupid shite about how he cant throw to bed...Same kind of shite about Jarrett Lee couldnt ever QB again...I DO KNOW THIS THOUGH, RUSSELL SHEPERD COULD RUN THE ZONE READ 1000 TIMES BETTER THEN JJ...he's a 1000 times better runner, has juke and is one of the best running that offense.

It won't be a 2 system so much as Randall will get the Perrilloux carries ala 2007, but will be able to throw it.
