Yea, I realize the LA metro area is huge, but these two schools are within 15 minutes of each other. This is almost like Tulane and UNO both hosting, IMO.

It would be questionable, especially since UCI's stadium is pretty small, but I couldn't imagine two top 8 teams not getting regionals

How does Hawaii make a regional? La Tech just went to their place and won 4 of 4.

Fullerton Regional [ESPN SELECTION]
Host: Cal State Fullerton {7}
1. Cal State Fullerton 32-12, RPI #2 (Big West at large)
4. Loyola Marymount 29-21 RPI #72 (WCC Automatic)
2. San Diego State 31-18, RPI #36 (Mt West at large)
3. Hawaii 26-20, RPI #29 (WAC at large)

Hawaii has a bunch of really good wins and a strong enough RPI to get in as an at large

3/7/2009 Mississippi State Les Murakami Baseball Stadium W 10-5
3/8/2009 Mississippi State Les Murakami Baseball Stadium W 11-5

Mississippi State Overall Record: 21-26 SEC: 6-17

And they swept Loyola Marymount in Hawaii. Every game which you consider a "bunch" was played in Hawaii.

It does take away from the basis of a regional in my opinion.

Secondly, I am sure the tournament arrangers want to see UCI and Fullterton move on and match up in Omaha or either in a super....

they could easily remain a #1 seed but just not host; go to someone else's place who is a #2. that's happened plenty of times

their record suprises me....i don't think they were even a .500 club last year but i could be wrong

ETA: probably a bad match-up for Bama...probably would not make it out of this:

quote:

Manhattan Regional
Host: Kansas State
1. Kansas State 35-11-1, #20 (Big XII at large)
4. Creighton 28-18, RPI #98 (MVC Automatic)
2. Alabama 32-15, RPI #32 (SEC at large)
3. Illinois 30-13, RPI #49 (Big 10 Automatic)

that would be a tough matchup for bama but if they got any kind of pitching they're dangerous.
